Medical Description

Coriminic CPM syrup is used to relieve sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes from allergies, hives and some common cold symptoms. It contains chlorpheniramine, an antihistamine that reduces the effect of histamine, a chemical involved in allergy symptoms. This can lessen itching, nasal discharge and sneezing, but it does not remove the viral cause of a cold. Coriminic CPM syrup is given by mouth, with or without food, using the measuring device supplied with the pack.

Uses

  • Allergic rhinitis: Pollen, dust or pet dander can trigger sneezing, runny nose and itchy or watery eyes; this medicine reduces these symptoms.
  • Hives: Allergic skin reactions can cause raised, red, itchy patches; chlorpheniramine may reduce the itching and swelling.
  • Common cold symptoms: A cold may cause a runny nose and sneezing; this syrup provides temporary relief while the infection clears.

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use it with monoamine oxidase inhibitor medicines or if you have glaucoma, difficulty passing urine, severe breathing problems, or certain stomach or bowel problems unless a doctor advises. Ask a doctor before giving it to a young child.

Storage and disposal

Store Coriminic CPM syrup in its closed bottle at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Keep it out of children's reach. Do not use it if its colour, clarity or smell changes.

Dosage

Overdose

If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The chlorpheniramine component blocks the action of histamine, a chemical released during an allergic reaction. This reduces sneezing, itching, watery eyes and excessive nasal discharge. It does not cure the infection causing a common cold.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Coriminic CPM syrup works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention sleeping or calming medicines, opioid pain medicines, other antihistamines, medicines for mood, monoamine oxidase inhibitor medicines, and medicines for glaucoma or difficulty passing urine, because combined effects can increase sleepiness, blurred vision or trouble passing urine.

Interactions with food items

Avoid alcohol because it can greatly increase sleepiness, dizziness and poor concentration. Food is not expected to change the effect significantly.
