Colchicine tablet is a medicine that contains colchicine. It is used to treat gout attacks and prevent flare-ups. It controls the symptoms of gout like pain and swelling in the joint due to excess uric acid deposition.

The mode of action of the Colchicine tablet against gout is not completely known. According to one theory, colchicine decreases the body's inflammatory response to urate crystals by stopping the movement of granulocytes to the inflamed site.

  • Clarithromycin: Increases Colchicine levels and can lead to more side effects
  • Azithromycin: Can cause increased Colchicine levels and side effects
  • Telithromycin: Simultaneous use can increase Colchicine levels and side effects
  • Ritonavir: Can increase Colchicine levels and can lead to more side effects
  • Disulfiram: Concomitant use can increase blood Colchicine levels and increase side effects
  • Cimetidine: Concomitant use may lead to increased blood Colchicine levels
  • Tolbutamide: Simultaneous use can increase blood Colchicine levels
  • Digoxin: Can increase the risk of rhabdomylosis, a muscle disease
  • Antifungal medicines like ketoconazole, etc. can cause colchicine toxicity
  • Heart medicines like verapimil and dilitiazem can cause colchicine toxicity

Interactions with food items

Grapefruit juice can cause increase in the levels of colchicine in your blood and should be avoided.
