Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Cobate Gm Cream contains a combination of clobetasol, gentamicin, miconazole, clotrimazole and chlorocresol as active substances.
- Clobetasol is a steroid that acts by blocking the production of a natural substance called prostaglandin, which is responsible for itching, swelling and redness.
- Gentamicin is an antibiotic agent which is widely used for treating various bacterial infections of the skin. It works by preventing the growth and multiplication of infection-causing bacteria.
- Miconazole and clotrimazole are antifungal medicines that work by preventing the formation of a fungal cell wall component. This leads to the formation of a defective cell wall which ultimately kills the infection-causing fungus.
- Chlorocresol is a disinfectant and antiseptic.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Cobate Gm Cream is meant for external application on the skin and thus is less likely to interact with other medicines taken orally.
- However, it may interact with other topically applied medicine. Discuss with your doctor if you are applying any other medicines to the skin.
- Particular care should be taken if you are taking antifungal medicines like itraconazole, ritonavir which is used in HIV infections, antibiotics such as erythromycin, blood-thinning agents like warfarin and verapamil used in heart problems.
- Cobate Gm Cream may damage latex contraceptives like condoms or diaphragms and may reduce their effectiveness. Alternative birth control measures should be used for at least five days after using this medicine.
