Medical Description

Cefunova LB Tablets is a combination medicine used to treat selected bacterial infections and support the normal balance of intestinal bacteria during antibiotic treatment. It contains cefuroxime axetil, which changes into the antibiotic cefuroxime, and lactobacillus, beneficial bacteria added to support the digestive system. The cefuroxime component stops susceptible bacteria from building a protective outer wall, while the lactobacillus component helps replace helpful bacteria that may be disturbed during treatment. Cefunova LB tablets are taken by mouth with or after food only as prescribed.

Uses

Do not use it if you have had a severe allergic reaction to cefuroxime, another cephalosporin or a penicillin antibiotic. Tell your doctor about kidney disease, liver disease or previous severe antibiotic-related diarrhoea, and do not use antibiotics for viral illnesses unless they are prescribed for a bacterial infection.

Dosage

Overdose

An overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort or unusual movements. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The cefuroxime axetil component changes into cefuroxime in the body and stops susceptible bacteria from building their protective outer wall. This prevents the bacteria from surviving and spreading. The lactobacillus component supplies helpful bacteria that may support the normal digestive balance disturbed during antibiotic treatment.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Cefunova LB tablets works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, antacids and acid-reducing medicines can lower cefuroxime absorption, probenecid can increase cefuroxime levels, blood thinners may need clotting monitoring, and medicines that affect kidney function may increase unwanted effects.

Interactions with food items

Food helps cefuroxime axetil absorb and may reduce stomach upset. Take Cefunova LB tablets with or after food as prescribed. No other specific food interaction is established.
