Medical Description

Broncho Tussin XP Tablets are used to relieve cough with mucus and help breathing when thick secretions and narrowed airways occur together. They contain a combination of ambroxol, which helps loosen mucus, guaiphenesin, which helps clear respiratory secretions, and terbutaline, which relaxes tightened airway muscles. The combination makes phlegm easier to bring up and can improve airflow. Broncho Tussin XP tablets are taken by mouth as prescribed and are intended for symptoms that need medical assessment, not for a sudden severe breathing attack.

Uses

  • Cough with mucus: Ambroxol and guaiphenesin loosen and thin phlegm so it can be cleared more easily by coughing.
  • Airway narrowing with mucus: Terbutaline relaxes tightened airway muscles, which can ease chest tightness and help air move more freely during breathing.
  • Chest congestion: The combination may help clear thick respiratory secretions that make the chest feel heavy or blocked.

How does this medicine work?

Ambroxol reduces the thickness of mucus and supports its movement out of the airways. Guaiphenesin helps loosen respiratory secretions so coughing can clear them. Terbutaline relaxes the muscles around narrowed airways, which can improve the movement of air. Together, these ingredients address both mucus congestion and airway tightness.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Broncho Tussin XP tablets works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention beta-blockers, other airway-opening medicines, water tablets, steroid medicines, thyroid medicines and some antidepressants, because they can reduce the airway-opening effect or increase heart rhythm and low-potassium risks. Cough suppressants may make mucus harder to clear, so ask before combining them.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is established. Keep up fluids unless a clinician has restricted them, as hydration can help mucus clearance.
