Medical Description

Blush capsule is an iron and vitamin medicine used to support haemoglobin production when the body needs iron, folate or vitamin B12. It contains a combination of ferrous fumarate, folic acid, mecobalamin, pyridoxine and vitamin C, with dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate as a stool-softening ingredient. Iron supplies the material needed for haemoglobin, folate, vitamin B12 and vitamin B6 support blood-cell formation and nerve function, and vitamin C helps the body absorb iron. The stool-softening ingredient helps water mix with stool. The capsule is taken by mouth and should be used when these nutrients are appropriate for you.

Uses

  • Iron deficiency anaemia: Low iron can limit haemoglobin production and cause tiredness or weakness; this medicine supplies iron to support correction after medical assessment.
  • Folate and vitamin B12 nutrition: Inadequate intake of these nutrients can reduce healthy blood-cell production; this capsule replenishes nutritional support for normal blood formation and nerve function.
  • Stool comfort during iron use: Dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate softens stool and may make bowel movements easier for people who become constipated with iron.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Ask a doctor before use if you have severe stomach or bowel disease, abdominal pain, vomiting or a change in bowel habit.

Side effects

  • Constipation: Iron may make stools harder or less frequent even though the stool-softening ingredient may reduce this effect; seek care for severe pain or persistent constipation.
  • Stomach upset: Iron and vitamin ingredients can cause nausea or abdominal discomfort, especially when the stomach is empty; seek advice if vomiting continues.
  • Dark stools: Iron commonly makes stools darker without causing harm; seek urgent medical advice for tar-like stools with weakness, visible blood or severe pain.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water. Use it with or without food as advised; food may reduce stomach upset. Do not crush or chew the capsule. • Dark stools can occur with iron, but report tar-like stools, visible blood or severe stomach pain.
  • Use the capsule only when iron supplementation is appropriate for you.
  • Seek advice if constipation becomes severe or you develop persistent abdominal pain.
  • Keep a list of medicines that may need separation from iron.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much iron can cause severe stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, drowsiness or collapse, especially in children. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Ferrous fumarate supplies iron for haemoglobin and red blood cell formation. Folic acid, mecobalamin and pyridoxine support normal blood-cell maturation and nerve function. Vitamin C helps improve iron absorption from the gut. Dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate softens stool by helping water mix with it.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Blush capsule works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, iron can reduce absorption of thyroid medicines, some antibiotics and certain medicines for bone health, while antacids and acid-reducing medicines can lower iron absorption. Tell your doctor if you use other iron products or stool-softening medicines.

Interactions with food items

Tea, coffee, milk and calcium-rich foods can reduce iron absorption when taken together. Vitamin C-rich foods may support absorption. Follow the timing advice given by your doctor or pharmacist.
