Betadine 2 % Description

Betadine gargle is an oral antiseptic and disinfectant preparation. It contains a 2% povidone-iodine solution. Betadine gargle is used as a mouthwash to kill germs that cause infections of the mouth. Your dentist may also provide you with an oral rinse that may be given during or after dental procedures.

Betadine gargle is used for the treatment of oral infections like sore throat, mouth ulcers and swelling of gums. This gargle is for oral use only and must not be swallowed. Betadine gargle is not recommended for children below 12 years of age. Use it with the dosing cup provided along with the package. Avoid contact of this gargle with eyes and silver jewellery.

Macberry gargle, Betakind gargle, Cipladine gargle and Puradine gargle are some other formulations containing povidone-iodine solution. It is only for external use and should not be consumed. As directed by your doctor or chemist, measure out the appropriate amount of Betadine gargle. Gargle with the solution for 30 seconds to 1 minute, covering your entire mouth. Spit the solution into the washbasin, taking care not to swallow it.

Eating or drinking should be avoided for at least 30 minutes after using the Betadine gargle, as this may reduce its effectiveness. Contact your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after a few days of using this gargle, or if they worsen.
