- You are an elderly patient. The dose of the Barbit 60 mg tablet should be carefully monitored.
- You want to stop the medication. Do not suddenly stop using the Barbit tablet, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms like tremors, sweating, irritability, vomiting, etc. It can also cause life-threatening seizures.
- You see any skin reaction. Immediately consult a doctor, as this medicine can cause serious skin conditions like Steven-johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis ( life-threatening skin conditions).
- You are planning to start any herbal medicines or supplements, as they may interfere with this medicine.
- You have any side effects for a long duration. Most of these side effects do not require medical treatment, and they will disappear once you have adjusted to the dose. But, if any of these conditions persist for a long duration, consult your doctor immediately.
- You have a history of substance abuse. This medicine has the potential to cause addiction.
- You have any self-harming or suicidal thoughts, seek medical help.
- You are using other medication, as it can cause medicine reactions with some of them.
- Note: The dose of this medicine should be monitored, as you may experience severe mood swings and changes in behaviour when used for a long duration. Barbit tablets can decrease the effects of oral contraceptives.
Directions for Use
- Try to take the Barbit 60 tablets exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
- Do not exceed the dosage, even if you cannot feel its effects.
- You can take it with or without consuming food.
- Do not break this tablet or chew it.
- Try to take the tablet (whole) with a glass of water.
- Do not take it with other medications without informing your doctor.
- Do not take if the package has been opened.
- Do not suddenly stop taking this medication, as it can have adverse effects.

- Symptoms of a Barbit tablet overdose include: Rapid side-to-side movement of eyes (nystagmus), drowsiness, dizziness, rash, shock (extremely low blood pressure), slowed or absent breathing and slurred speech. If you overdose on this medicine and experience any of these symptoms, immediately seek emergency medical treatment from a nearby hospital.

Interactions with other medicines
- Anti-HIV medication (darunavir, etravirine, orlistat, rilpivirine) can cause side effects with this medicine.
- Sleep-inducing agents like cough medicine, antihistamines, opioid painkillers, sleeping pills, muscle relaxants can worsen the severity of drowsiness.
Interactions with food items
- Do not take the Barbit 60 mg tablets with alcohol. It can worsen the condition. It can also interfere with the effects of the medicine and increase the severity of side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, mood disorders, tremors, etc.
- Take the Barbit tablet with or without food. You can take it with food or milk if you have an upset stomach.
