Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Zinc may reduce the absorption of tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics, and the antibiotic can in turn reduce zinc absorption. Your doctor may advise taking the antibiotic at least 2 hours before, or 4 to 6 hours after, this supplement.
- Zinc may reduce penicillamine absorption. Take them at least 1 hour apart.
- Some diuretics can lower zinc levels in the body.
- Selenium may interact with cisplatin, a chemotherapy medicine. Tell your oncologist before taking this supplement during cancer treatment.
- Copper and manganese are not known to interact with medicines.
- Always tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, vitamins, minerals, supplements and herbal medicines you use.
