Medical Description

Amicline Plus Tablet is a combination medicine that contains diloxanide and ornidazole as its active components. It belongs to the class of medicines called Anti-amoebic and Anti-diarrhoeal respectively. It is used in the treatment of intestinal and extra-intestinal infection caused by Entamoeba histolytica. It is also used in the treatment of protozoal infections such as giardiasis caused by Giardia lambia. Amicline Plus Tablet works by killing these micro-organisms that are responsible for the infection. It should not be used for children, pregnant and nursing women without consulting a physician. Take it in the recommended dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor for optimal benefits. You may experience abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headache as common side effects of this medicine, these are temporary and usually go away on their own. If these symptoms do not resolve or worsen, consult with your doctor.

Uses

It is used to treat diarrhoea, dysentery (intestinal or extra-intestinal amoebiasis). It is also used in the treatment of protozoal infections such as giardiasis, trichomoniasis, etc.

  • If you are allergic to ornidazole or Diloxanide or any of the components of this medicine.
  • If you are pregnant and are breastfeeding.
  • If you have a fits problem or any auto-immune disorder.
  • If you have muscular pain or any other underlying medical conditions.

How Does It Work?

  • Ornidazole inhibits the growth of protozoa by interacting with the DNA of the micro-organism and inhibiting the protein synthesis, thereby leading to the death of the micro-organism.
  • Diloxanide is a luminal amoebicide, works by killing the infection-causing organisms in the intestine.

  • Sometimes Amicline Plus Tablet may affect the way other medicines work and other medicines may affect how Amicline Plus Tablet works if taken at the same time.

  • Especially, if you are on certain medications like blood thinners (such as warfarin) or muscle relaxants, antiepileptic medicines like phenytoin, antacids like cimetidine, etc.
