Medical Description

Alcecost SP tablet is used to treat pain associated with arthritis, spondylitis and post-surgery, along with swelling. It contains a combination of three medicines, namely aceclofenac, paracetamol and serratiopeptidase, as its active ingredients. It is also used to provide relief from pain, especially in bones and joints in conditions like Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis and pain after surgery. This medicine should not be used by pregnant women during their third trimester and by breastfeeding women. It is advised to take Alcecost sp as advised by your doctor to gain optimal benefits. Alcecost SP tablet can be taken along with or after food. Before using the Alcecost Sp tablet, inform the doctor about your detailed medical history.

Uses

Alcecost SP tablet is used to provide relief from the pain associated with various conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and post surgeries.

Contraindications

  • If you have an allergy to aceclofenac, paracetamol, serratiopeptidase or any other ingredient of Alcecost Sp tablet.
  • If you have a history of allergy including asthma, skin rashes or runny nose after taking medicines like Ibuprofen and Aspirin.
  • If you have ever experienced severe allergic reactions.
  • If you have a history of frequent stomach ulcers or bleeding.
  • If you are suffering from any heart disease like heart failure and high blood pressure.
  • If you have problems with the kidney and liver function.
  • If you are pregnant (especially after 3rd month of pregnancy).

Pregnancy

It is unsafe to take Alcecost SP tablet during pregnancy. Hence it should not be taken by pregnant women. Taking this medicine in pregnancy can cause defects in the baby's heart, even delay delivery or increase the risk of bleeding.

Breast Feeding

It is advised not to use Alcecost SP tablet if you are breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you are a nursing mother before starting the treatment.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have any pre-existing medical conditions like kidney or liver problems, heart disorder, hypertension, autoimmune disorder, asthma, etc.
  • You are an elderly patient or taking diuretics or have a kidney disorder, then this medicine can increase the risk of kidney failure. Your doctor may ask you to do renal function tests for the same.
  • You are suffering from gastrointestinal problems like bleeding, ulcers in the intestine (perforation) or Crohn's disease or you notice black tarry stools.
  • You are an alcoholic and the concomitant use of this medicine can damage the liver.
  • You have disorders related to blood like clotting problems and anaemia.
  • You have skin rashes & lesions after taking this medicine.

Directions for Use

  • Alcecost SP tablet should be taken as directed by your doctor.
  • It can be taken with or after having your meal.

Storage and disposal

  • Store in a cool and dry place protected from moisture.
  • Keep it out of reach of children.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking Alcecost SP tablet in high doses may result in serious liver and kidney damage. Other symptoms of overdose include headache, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Alcecost SP tablet acts by interfering with the production of a chemical called prostaglandin which is responsible for swelling and pain. Serratiopeptidase acts by repairing the tissues. Thus, decreasing the swelling around the infected area.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Some medicines can affect the way Alcecost SP tablet works or Alcecost sp itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
  • Tell your doctor about the medicines, supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid possible interaction.
  • In particular, if you are on certain medications like anti-gout medicines, water pills, medicines for brain and heart-related diseases, anti-epileptic medicines, antibiotics like levofloxacin, immunosuppressants like ciclosporin, anti-hypertensive medicines, anti-HIV medicines, oral contraceptives, etc.
  • Do not take any other medicines containing paracetamol or aceclofenac while taking the Alcecost SP tablet as there is a risk of liver damage.
  • Increased risk of stomach ulcers or bleeding when taken with steroids or other pain relief medicines like Aspirin.
  • There is a risk of bleeding if you are taking blood-thinning medicines like warfarin during the treatment.
