Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Iron and B-vitamin supplementation is often recommended during pregnancy to prevent anaemia. Your doctor will advise on the appropriate dose.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Iron and B vitamins pass into breast milk in small amounts and are generally safe during breastfeeding. Consult your doctor for the right dose during lactation.

Driving

Driving

This medicine is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid excessive alcohol consumption as it can interfere with iron absorption and B-vitamin utilization.

Directions for Use

Shake well before use. Use a measuring spoon or cup to measure the correct dose as directed by your doctor. Do not consume directly from the bottle. This syrup is best taken with food to improve iron absorption and reduce nausea. Take at the same time each day for consistency. If constipation develops, increase water and fibre intake.

Storage and disposal

Store this syrup in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children as iron is harmful if taken in excess. Do not use after the expiry date.

Quick Tips

  • Take with a vitamin C-rich food (like orange juice) to enhance iron absorption.
  • Include iron-rich foods in your diet like spinach, lentils, and lean meat.
  • Dark stools are normal and expected with iron supplementation.
  • If constipation develops, increase water and fibre intake.
  • Do not take iron with calcium or calcium-containing foods at the same time.
  • Give to children only under adult supervision.

Dosage

Overdose

Iron overdose can be harmful. Accidental overdose of this syrup may cause severe nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and potentially serious complications affecting the liver and heart. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Ferrous gluconate is an easily absorbed form of iron that is essential for red blood cell formation and oxygen transport. Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) and folic acid work together with iron to produce healthy red blood cells and prevent anaemia. Calcium supports bone health alongside these vital nutrients.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way this syrup works. Tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking. In particular, tetracycline or fluoroquinolone antibiotics should be taken at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after this syrup as iron can reduce their absorption. If taking thyroid medicine, maintain a 4-hour gap. Anti-acid medicines may reduce iron absorption.

Interactions with food items

Iron is best absorbed on an empty stomach, but food reduces nausea. Calcium, caffeine, and tea reduce iron absorption, so avoid taking them at the same time as this syrup. Vitamin C in citrus fruits enhances iron absorption.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Most people begin to feel better within 2 to 3 weeks of regular use as energy levels improve. However, iron levels in the blood may take longer to normalize. Continue taking this medicine as prescribed by your doctor.
Dark or black stools are a normal and expected side effect of iron supplementation. This is not a cause for concern. However, if you also experience other symptoms, inform your doctor.
Some medicines interact with iron. Always inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking. Leave a gap of at least 2 hours between taking this syrup and antibiotics or thyroid medicines.
