Molecule Description

Permethrin is an antiparasitic molecule widely used for the treatment of scabies, a skin infestation caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. It works by paralysing and killing the mites and their eggs, helping relieve symptoms such as intense itching and a pimple-like rash. Permethrin is intended for external use only and should be applied only to unbroken skin as directed by a doctor or pharmacist. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

You should not use Permethrin if you are allergic to it. Permethrin is for external use only so do not consume it as it may be life-threatening. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and tongue.

Permethrin is used to treat scabies, a skin infestation that causes itching and rash due to tiny mites under the skin. It kills the mites by paralysing them, helping clear the infection. It is applied externally on the skin as directed. Using it correctly ensures the best results. Always follow your doctor’s instructions for proper application.

Some people may experience mild redness, tingling, itching, or dryness after applying. These effects are usually temporary and often improve as the mites die. If you notice severe irritation, rash, or worsening symptoms, consult your doctor.

Permethrin starts working quickly, but itching may continue for a few weeks as the skin heals. This does not mean the treatment failed. Your doctor may recommend a second application if needed. Avoid scratching to prevent skin damage or infection. Consult your doctor if symptoms persist or worsen after treatment.

Permethrin is available in several forms depending on the condition being treated. The most common form is a cream used for scabies. It is also available as a lotion or cream rinse for treating head lice. Some regions may offer topical solutions or sprays for specific uses. Always use the form and strength recommended by your doctor.
