Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
Linagliptin inhibits the enzyme called Dipeptidyl Peptidase (DPP)-4, thereby prevents the breakdown of GLP-1 and GIP (Glucose-Dependant Insulinotropic Polypeptide). By preventing the failure, medicine prolongs the action of GLP-1 and GIP which stimulates the release of insulin from beta cells in the pancreas and it also decreases the release of glucagon from pancreatic alpha cells. These effects together increase the amount of insulin in a glucose-dependent manner and reduce the glucose production in the liver.
