Enoxaparin is used to thin your blood. It keeps your blood from forming clots. Blood clots are dangerous because they can lead to severe blockages in your blood vessels; this can cause a heart attack.
Uses of Enoxaparin
- This medicine is used as a blood thinner to treat and prevent harmful blood clots
- It is used along with certain other medicines to avoid problems caused by heart attack or unstable chest pain
- It is also used to decrease the risk of recurring heart attack in certain patients
Contraindications of Enoxaparin
When should one not use Enoxaparin
- Have allergic reactions to Enoxaparin
- Have high blood pressure
- Have any major bleeding
- If in the recent past (last 100 days) if you had a decreased in your platelets (type of blood cells)
Side effects of Enoxaparin
Common side effects of this drug are:
- Bleeding (gum bleeds, nose bleeds, black or tarry stool, blood in cough and vomit)
- Skin rash
- Pain at injection site
- Numbness in your face, arms or legs
- Increased liver enzyme
- Stomach pain
- Hair loss

- You have had an allergic reaction to Heparin that directly affects the platelets which are decreased
- You have endocarditis (an infection of the inner lining of the heart)
- You have a history of gastric ulcer
- You have had a recent stroke
- You have high blood pressure
- You have diabetes
- Problems with blood vessels in the eye caused by diabetes (called diabetic retinopathy) or you have had an eye operation recently
- You have kidney or liver problems
- You have a high level of potassium in your blood (this may be checked with a blood test)
