Medical Description

Zocef CV 500 mg tablet is used to treat various bacterial infections like infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract and sexually transmitted diseases. It is a combined antibiotic containing cefuroxime axetil and clavulanic acid. Cefuroxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic that acts by inhibiting the cell wall synthesis of bacteria. Clavulanic acid acts by inhibiting the enzyme made by bacteria; this will help cefuroxime to function optimally. You should not use Zocef cv 500 if you are allergic to penicillins or any other ingredient of this medicine. If there is no improvement in your condition or any side effects bother you, then consult with your doctor. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or are breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from, before starting the Zocef CV 500 mg tablet.

Zocef CV 500 mg tablet is used to treat various types of bacterial infections such as infection of the urinary tract, Lower respiratory tract, and Sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhoea.

Contraindications

  • As Zocef CV 500 mg tablet contains cefuroxime Axetil and clavulanic acid, any condition which is contraindicated with any of these when taken alone should be considered contraindicated for this combination.
  • If you are allergic to this medicine or any of the ingredients of Zocef cv 500.
  • If you have a history of a severe allergy to any other antibiotics like penicillins.

How Does It Work?

Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting the cell wall synthesis of bacteria, which is responsible for bacterial infection. However, bacteria make an enzyme (beta-lactamases), which can destroy cefuroxime. Clavulanic acid inactivates this enzyme and hence helps cefuroxime to function optimally.
