Medical Description
Zavedos injection contains idarubicin, an anthracycline anti cancer agent. It exerts its effect by inserting itself into DNA, blocking key enzymes, and interfering with DNA and RNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells.
Zavedos injection is primarily used as part of combination chemotherapy for Acute Myeloid Leukemia. It stops cell division and induces programmed cell death in leukemic blast cells.
Common side effects of Zavedos injection include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, temporary hair loss, mouth sores, fatigue, and reddish urine for a short time after treatment, which is usually harmless.
Seek immediate medical help if you develop a fever or infection, unusual bleeding or bruising, chest pain or shortness of breath, pain and redness around your IV line, or severe vomiting.
Zavedos injection is administered by Healthcare professionals via intravenous (IV) injection or slow IV infusion in specialized oncology settings.
