Medical Description

Welhart Capsule contains mexiletine, which belongs to a group of medicine called "antiarrhythmic". Mexiletine is used for treatment of irregular and abnormal heart rhythms. It is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a regular heartbeat.

  • Ventricular arrhythmias

Contraindications

  • If you have cardiogenic shock or pre-existing second or third degree AV block (if no pacemaker is present)
  • If you are pregnant

Directions for Use

Take the medicine exactly as directed by your doctor. Welhart Capsule is to be administered orally either with food or with antacid. This prevents stomach upset. Do not crush, chew or break the medicine. Swallow it whole with water.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Administering mexelitine with caffeine can lower its urine levels by 50%
  • Giving Welhart Capsule with theophylline may increase its urine level
  • Medications like cimetidine, fluvoxamine, propafenone, rifampin, anti-seizure medicines (such as phenytoin, phenobarbital) can affect the removal of mexiletine from your body, which may affect how mexiletine works
