Medical Description
Vicks 500 tablet is a cold and flu medicine. It helps relieve symptoms such as a runny or stuffy nose, common cold, sneezing, body aches, headache, dry cough, and fever. The tablet contains a combination of diphenhydramine, phenylephrine, caffeine, and paracetamol.
Some other tablets containing the same active molecules are Nam Cold New tablet, New Hatric 3 tablet, Teplota Cold tablet, Sudin Cold tablet, and Rinostat Plus tablet. It acts by inhibiting the release of the chemical substance histamine. It constricts the nasal blood vessels, thus aiding in clearing the nasal passage and inhibiting the chemical substance involved in pain and fever.
Vicks 500 tablets should not be used in children below 12. Inform the doctor if you are on other medications or have medical conditions. Do not consume more than what is suggested by the doctor. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby, intend to get pregnant, or are already pregnant.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Vicks 500 tablet contains phenylephrine, paracetamol, diphenhydramine, and caffeine.
- Phenylephrine is a nasal decongestant; it shrinks or constricts the blood vessels in the nasal passage and improves congestion.
- Diphenhydramine acts by blocking the action of histamine, a natural substance produced by the body during an allergic reaction, and improves allergic symptoms like sneezing, watery eyes, and throat irritation.
- Caffeine acts by increasing alertness and wakefulness.
- Paracetamol acts by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing pain, swelling, and inflammation. Thus, it offers anti-inflammatory properties.
