Medical Description

Tusna syrup is a combination medicine used to relieve cough with mucus and chest congestion. It contains bromhexine and guaifenesin, which loosen and thin mucus, chlorpheniramine, which reduces allergy-related nasal symptoms, and menthol, which gives a cooling sensation in the throat. Together, these ingredients can make phlegm easier to cough out and may make breathing more comfortable. Tusna syrup is taken by mouth after shaking and measuring it with the supplied device.

Uses

  • Cough with mucus: Bromhexine and guaifenesin loosen thick phlegm, making it easier to cough out and helping relieve the chest congestion that accompanies a productive cough.

Tusna syrup should be used during pregnancy only if your doctor considers it necessary. Safety information is limited, so discuss the possible benefits and risks before use.

Breast Feeding

Ask your doctor before using Tusna syrup while breastfeeding. Chlorpheniramine and other ingredients may pass into breast milk and could affect the baby.

Avoid alcohol while using Tusna syrup because it can increase drowsiness and impair coordination.

Directions for Use

Shake well before use. Use the measuring device supplied with the pack. Do not drink from the bottle. Take Tusna syrup by mouth exactly as advised by your doctor or according to the pack directions. It may be taken with or without food. Drink suitable fluids to help loosen mucus. Do not use another cough or allergy medicine with similar ingredients unless a healthcare professional advises it.

Storage and disposal

Store Tusna syrup in its original container away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date or if its appearance changes. Ask a pharmacist how to dispose of unused syrup.

Quick Tips

  • Shake Tusna syrup well before each use.
  • Use the measuring device supplied with the pack, not a household spoon.
  • Drink suitable warm fluids and consider warm salt-water gargling to ease mucus-related throat discomfort.
  • Avoid alcohol and activities requiring alertness until you know how the syrup affects you.
  • Do not combine it with another cough, cold or allergy product without checking the ingredients.
  • Seek medical advice if cough persists, returns often or is accompanied by fever, chest pain or breathing difficulty.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much Tusna syrup may cause marked drowsiness, vomiting, dizziness, confusion, a fast heartbeat or breathing problems. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Bromhexine loosens thick mucus in the airways. Guaifenesin helps make mucus thinner and easier to cough out. Chlorpheniramine reduces allergy-related nasal symptoms that may worsen coughing. Menthol provides a cooling sensation that may soothe the throat and make breathing feel more comfortable.
