Medical Description

Triplent Tablet is a prescription medicine mainly used to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Major Depressive Disorder is also known as clinical depression, and it is characterised by a feeling of sadness, mood swings, loss of interest, feelings of hopelessness and loneliness etc. Triplent Tablet can also treat Neuropathic pain (pain due to nerve injury) and migraine in adults. It's also used to treat nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting at night) in children above 6 years. Triplent Tablet contains Amitriptyline as its active ingredient. Amitriptyline is an antidepressant that works by increasing chemical messenger levels in the brain; this aids in the regulation of mood as well as the treatment of depression. Triplent Tablet should be taken in dosage and duration as advised by your doctor. There are a lot of side effects associated with this medicine, so it is advised to monitor the dosage carefully. Don't stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it can cause clinical worsening of your condition or may lead to withdrawal symptoms.

  • If you have a heart condition and recently had a heart attack or myocardial infarction.
  • If you have acute angle glaucoma, which increases the fluid pressure in the eyes.
  • If you have a history of seizure disorder.
  • If you have liver or kidney disease.
  • If you have respiratory issues.
  • If you are pregnant or a breastfeeding mother.

Directions for Use

  • Take Triplent Tablet exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
  • You can take this medicine with or without food or as prescribed.

  • Take the Tablet as a whole with a full glass of water. Do not break/crush the tablet or chew this medicine.
  • Do not take this tablet with other medications without consulting your doctor.
  • Don’t stop taking this medication suddenly, as it may lead to withdrawal side effects.
  • Do not consume if the package has been opened.
  • Don’t exceed the dosage, even if you cannot feel its effects.

Storage and disposal

Store Triplent Tablet at room temperature in a cool and dry area, away from sunlight. Keep the medication away from children and pet animals in a closed or locked cabinet. Do not remove the medicine from its packing and store it within its original packaging. Disposal- Do not flush medicines down into the toilet or throw them into the dustbin unless instructed to do so. Medicines disposed of in this manner may pollute or contaminate the environment. Triplent Tablet overdose can cause symptoms like confusion, agitation, sleepiness, raised heart rate, low blood pressure, irregular heart rate, dilated pupils, dry mouth, inability to pass urine, seizure and coma etc. In case of an overdose or if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, seek emergency medical treatment.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed a dose of Triplent Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If you remember missing a dosage when it's already time to take the next one, skip the missed dose and consume the next Tablet. Don't take both doses together, as it can cause an overdose. Consult your doctor if you've further queries about the dosage.

How Does It Work?

Triplent Tablet contains Amitriptyline as an active ingredient. Amitriptyline is an antidepressant. It belongs to the class of medicine called Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs). It works by increasing the levels of certain chemical messengers (serotonin and noradrenaline) in the brain by preventing the re-uptake of both serotonin as well as nor-adrenaline. This helps in regulating mood and also treats depression. It also blocks the pain signals from the brain, which helps relieve migraine headaches and neuropathic pain. It has sedative and anticholinergic effects.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Inform your doctor and pharmacist about your prescription and non-prescription medications, herbal products, nutritional supplements, vitamins and nutritional supplements you're taking or plan to take as there is a chance of medicine Interaction, making it less effective or increasing side effects.   • NSAIDs, Aspirin, and other medications that affect coagulation may interact and increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Interaction with Herbal products like St john’s wort can lead to life-threatening side effects.

  • You can continue with the regular diet as food doesn’t influence the effect of the Triplent Tablet.
