Directions for Use

Shake the bottle well before use. Measure the dose with the cup or spoon provided, not a kitchen spoon, and do not drink straight from the bottle. Iron is taken in best on an empty stomach, but if it upsets your stomach you can take Trifer syrup with food, or as your doctor advises.

Storage and disposal

Store Trifer syrup in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the cap tightly closed and out of the reach of children, as too much iron is especially harmful to young children. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack.

Quick Tips

  • Iron is taken in best on an empty stomach, but take it with food if it upsets your stomach.
  • Vitamin C-rich foods like orange juice help the body absorb iron.
  • Avoid taking it with tea, coffee, milk, or antacids at the same time.
  • Your stools may turn dark while taking iron, which is harmless.
  • Keep it well away from children, as too much iron is dangerous for them.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much iron can cause stomach pain, vomiting, and loose motions. Iron overdose can be serious and even life-threatening, especially in young children, so keep it well out of their reach. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, or a child has swallowed any, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Iron is needed to make haemoglobin, the part of red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. When iron is low, the body cannot make enough healthy red blood cells, and you may feel tired and weak. Trifer syrup supplies extra iron so the body can build more red blood cells and restore normal iron levels.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Trifer syrup works, and this medicine can affect how well other medicines are taken in by the body. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, including any bought without a prescription. In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking antacids, certain antibiotics, or thyroid medicines, and leave a gap between them and this medicine as advised.

Interactions with food items

Tea, coffee, milk, and eggs can lower how much iron the body takes in, so avoid taking them at the same time as Trifer syrup. Foods and drinks rich in vitamin C, such as orange juice, can help the body absorb iron better.
