Medical Description

Strozagel injection is used under specialist hospital care to improve spasms in brain blood vessels and symptoms of reduced brain blood flow after surgery for subarachnoid haemorrhage, and to help movement problems during acute cerebral thrombosis. It contains ozagrel hydrochloride, a medicine that reduces platelet clumping. Ozagrel lowers thromboxane A2 formation and supports substances that help keep blood flowing through brain vessels. A doctor or nurse gives Strozagel injection into a vein in a hospital or clinic, and it is not self-injected.

Uses

  • Cerebral ischemia after subarachnoid haemorrhage surgery: Helps improve blood flow and related neurological symptoms when brain tissue has received too little oxygen after surgery.
  • Movement problems during acute cerebral thrombosis: A clot-related stroke can cause weakness or poor coordination; hospital treatment may help restore movement as the affected brain area recovers.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not receive it. Do not receive Strozagel injection if you have active bleeding or a bleeding disorder. Tell your doctor before treatment if you have low blood pressure or a previous serious allergic reaction to a medicine or food.

Side effects

  • Bleeding: Ozagrel reduces platelet clumping, so bruising, nosebleeds or oozing from the injection site can occur; alert the healthcare team if bleeding continues.
  • Low blood pressure: Ozagrel may lower blood pressure and cause dizziness, weakness or fainting during treatment; tell the healthcare team immediately if this happens.

Dosage

Overdose

An excessive amount may cause bleeding, low blood pressure or other serious reactions. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Ozagrel hydrochloride reduces the formation of thromboxane A2, a substance that makes platelets clump and can narrow blood vessels. It also supports prostacyclin, which helps limit platelet clumping and keeps vessels more relaxed. By improving this balance, ozagrel lowers platelet aggregation and may improve circulation in affected brain vessels.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Strozagel works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell them about blood thinners, antiplatelet medicines, clot-dissolving medicines and pain relievers that increase bleeding, which can raise bleeding risk with Strozagel, and blood-pressure-lowering medicines, which may worsen low blood pressure.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is known.
