Uses of Sompraz 40 MG

  • Sompraz Inj uses include the treatment of stomach ulcers, a stomach infection caused by the organism Helicobacter pylori, intestinal ulcers, and gastritis.
  • Doctors prescribe Sompraz Inj for the treatment of heartburn, also called gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, in which there is reflux of acid from the stomach to the food pipe.

Breast Feeding

Consult your doctor before you take the injection while breastfeeding since it is not known whether it gets passed onto the infant.

Driving

Interactions with other medicines

  • Itraconazole or ketoconazole which is used to treat fungal infections
  • Methotrexate (used for some cancers)
  • Tenofovir and other medicines used in treatment of HIV
  • Warfarin and phenprocoumon, which may cause thinning or thickening of blood

Q: What are the dietary restrictions while taking Sompraz Inj?

A: Avoid coffee, excess caffeine, spicy and fatty foods right before or after taking the injection.

Q: What should I tell my healthcare provider before beginning the course?

A: Any history or family history of cancer should be informed to your doctor, as studies have shown that Sompraz Inj can contribute to stomach cancer. Similarly, any HIV condition in the family or liver cirrhosis should be disclosed to the physician. Also inform them about any other medicines or supplements that you may be taking.

Q: For how long can Sompraz Inj be taken?

A: Depending on the condition, the injection takes 5-7 days for onset of action. Usually, it is prescribed for 1-6 months, but might be extended by the doctor if he deems it fit.

Q: Does Sompraz Inj cause any side effects if taken for a longer time?

A: If taken for excessively long periods, Sompraz Inj can cause clostridium difficile infection, malabsorbtion syndrome, atrophic gastritis and diarrhoea. Hence, it should only be taken as prescribed. Do not extend its use on your own.

Q: What is the normal dosage?

A: The dose of the injection varies according to the condition and severity. Usually, the average dose is 20-40mg per day. However, it is at the doctor's discretion to decide the dose according to your health and other existing medical conditions.
