Medical Description

Sedoril P oral drop is commonly prescribed for children to relieve symptoms of the common cold, such as sore throat, runny nose, cough, sneezing, watery eyes, body aches, and fever. Administer Sedoril P oral drop to your child by mouth, with or without food. If your child experiences stomach upset after taking the medicine, it's advisable to give it with food.

Always adhere to the dosing schedule provided by your child's doctor, as it is tailored to the specific symptoms your child is experiencing. Ensure that you follow the prescribed dose, timing, and method strictly. To help your child remember to take the medicine, it’s beneficial to give Sedoril P oral drop at the same time each day, as this can integrate it into their daily routine.

If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, you should administer the same dose again. However, do not repeat the dose if it is already time for the next dose. Your child may start to feel better within a week of consistent medication dosing, but it is essential to continue administering the medicine until the entire prescribed course is completed. Stopping the medication abruptly may worsen your child's condition.

Some minor and temporary side effects may occur while your child is taking this medicine. These can include vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, dizziness, rash, and headache. Typically, these side effects subside as your child’s body adjusts to the medication. If these side effects persist or become bothersome, consult your child's doctor promptly.

It is crucial to provide your child's doctor with their complete medical history, including any ongoing medications and any history of allergies, heart problems, blood disorders, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomalies, skin disorders, liver impairment, or kidney issues. This information is essential for adjusting the dosage and planning your child's overall treatment effectively.

According to the advisory issued by the Union Health Ministry, cough and cold medications should not be prescribed or dispensed to children under two years of age. These medications are generally not recommended for children under five years old. For children above that age, any use should be based on careful clinical evaluation and close supervision.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

  • Sedoril P oral drop works through the combined action of its three components: Paracetamol, Chlorpheniramine, and Phenylephrine.
  • Paracetamol inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are responsible for pain and inflammation, and also acts on heat-regulating centres to reduce body heat and control fever.
  • Chlorpheniramine works by blocking the action of histamine, a natural substance produced by the body in response to an allergic reaction.
  • Phenylephrine is a vasoconstrictor; it constricts the blood vessels in the nasal passages, thereby relieving congestion.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Medicines used to treat brain disorders such as Rasagiline, Methyldopa & Clomipramine, medicines used to relax the airways such as Epinephrine, Reserpine and medicines used to treat heart conditions like Veratridine and Reserpine should be used cautiously.
  • Other medicines containing Paracetamol or any topical decongestant containing Phenylephrine should not be used along with this medicine.
