Medical Description

Rumorf tablet is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. It has a single active ingredient, Morphine. It belongs to the category of medications that reduces pain. Uses of Rumorf tablets include managing moderate to severe pain in acute (sudden) or chronic (long-lasting) conditions. Pain arises when certain chemical substances in the body are released due to an injury. The brain sends a signal to the part of the body where the injury has occurred, causing the sensation of pain. Rumorf tablets help in blocking these pain-inducing chemicals from the brain. It is considered a safe medication when taken in the prescribed dosage. Note that this medicine has a high potential for causing dependency issues. Take this medicine only on the recommendation of a doctor. In case of kidney- or liver-related issues, consult a doctor before taking this medication. Some people can experience withdrawal symptoms, such as irritation, agitation, sweating, etc. on stopping this medication after long-term use. It is not advised to take Rumorf tablets continuously for more than a few days unless advised by a doctor.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Rumorf tablets contain Morphine as their only active ingredient. Morphine belongs to the opioid or narcotic group of pain relievers. It works by blocking pain signals from the brain from reaching the area of injury. The body produces chemical substances such as serotonin, norepinephrine, etc., to naturally minimise pain. Morphine mimics the effects of these chemicals by binding to certain nerve cells known as receptors and increasing the effect of serotonin and norepinephrine in the body. This results in reducing the sensation of pain.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Consumption of Rumorf tablets along with antidepressant medicines like alprazolam, clonazepam, etc. can increase the risk of low blood pressure, slow respiration, heightened drowsiness and loss of consciousness. A lower dose is recommended.
  • Consumption of Rumorf tablets along with muscle relaxants can increase muscle relaxation in the body and cause a decline in breathing.
  • Using Rumorf tablets with other opioid or narcotic pain relievers such as pentazocine, nalbuphine, etc. can cause increased levels of drowsiness. This can also lead to withdrawal symptoms like sweating, irritation, etc.
  • Do not use certain antidepressant medications like monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO) with this medicine. A gap of at least 14 days should be maintained before taking the Rumorf tablet.
