Medical Description

Reodys Tablets are used in adults and children to treat selected bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, soft tissues and eyes, as well as typhoid fever and some sexually transmitted infections. They contain roxithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic, meaning a type of antibiotic that stops susceptible bacteria from making proteins needed for growth. This limits bacterial multiplication and helps the body clear the infection. Reodys Tablets are swallowed whole with water on an empty stomach, exactly as prescribed. They are intended for susceptible bacterial infections, not ordinary viral colds or flu.

Uses

  • Ear, nose and throat infections: These bacterial illnesses can cause pain, congestion or difficulty swallowing; Reodys helps clear susceptible bacteria so affected tissues can recover.
  • Lung infections: Bacterial lung infections, including pneumonia, may be treated when roxithromycin is suitable for the identified infection.
  • Skin and soft-tissue infections: Certain bacterial infections affecting the skin or tissues beneath it can be treated with this antibiotic when prescribed.
  • Eye infections: Selected bacterial eye infections may respond to roxithromycin when a clinician confirms it is appropriate.
  • Typhoid fever: Typhoid fever caused by susceptible bacteria may be treated with roxithromycin under medical supervision.
  • Selected sexually transmitted infections: Some sexually transmitted infections, including gonorrhoea, may be treated when roxithromycin is specifically prescribed.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine or to macrolide antibiotics, do not take it. Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, an irregular heartbeat or a history of heart rhythm problems. Do not use it for a viral cold or flu unless a bacterial infection has been diagnosed. Tell your doctor if you previously had severe diarrhoea after antibiotic treatment.

Side effects

  • Loss of appetite: Roxithromycin may temporarily reduce hunger or make food less appealing. Tell your doctor if you cannot maintain food or fluid intake.
  • Skin rash: A new rash can reflect sensitivity to roxithromycin. Stop the medicine and get emergency medical help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the face, lips or throat.

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Roxithromycin prevents bacteria from making essential proteins. Without these proteins, susceptible bacteria cannot grow normally or spread, allowing the body to clear the infection.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Reodys Tablets works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell them if you use amiodarone or disopyramide, other medicines that affect heart rhythm, or antimalarial medicines such as artemether, because combinations can increase the risk of serious heart rhythm changes. Your doctor may need to change the treatment.
