Medical Description
Ramiven tablet contains abemaciclib, a CDK4/6 inhibitor. It is used to treat hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer, including certain patients with node-positive early breast cancer at high risk of recurrence after surgery and patients with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer. It is generally used in combination with hormonal therapy such as an aromatase inhibitor, tamoxifen, or fulvestrant, depending on the treatment setting and the doctor’s recommendation. The medicine works by blocking CDK4 and CDK6, proteins involved in cell growth and division, thereby slowing the growth of certain breast cancer cells.
Diarrhoea is the most common side effect of Ramiven tablet and can sometimes lead to dehydration or infection if not managed. At the first sign of loose stools, follow your doctor’s advice on an anti-diarrhoeal medicine and drink plenty of fluids. Contact your doctor if diarrhoea is severe, persistent, or associated with signs of dehydration.
Ramiven tablet is usually taken twice a day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole - do not chew or crush it. Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice, as it can increase the amount of the medicine in your body. Your doctor will arrange regular blood tests to monitor blood cell counts and liver function, especially during the first few months of treatment. Contact your doctor urgently if you develop a fever or any signs of infection.
Because Ramiven tablet affects rapidly dividing cells, it commonly causes tiredness, nausea, vomiting, reduced appetite, hair loss or thinning, low blood counts, and diarrhoea. Less commonly, it can cause lung inflammation, increase the risk of blood clots, or affect liver function. Tell your doctor right away if you notice new breathlessness, cough, swelling, leg pain, or yellowing of your skin or eyes.
Before starting Ramiven tablet, let your doctor know if you have any liver, kidney, or lung problems, and tell them about all the medicines you are currently taking, especially if any medicine affects an enzyme called CYP3A4. Also, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or could become pregnant. Effective contraception is recommended during treatment and for at least three weeks after the last dose. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment and for at least three weeks after the last dose. Ramiven tablet may affect your ability to drive. Try to avoid alcohol and make sure you stay well hydrated throughout your treatment.
