Description
Protussa Cough syrup contains chlorpheniramine and dextromethorphan. Chlorpheniramine is an antiallergic medicine, dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. Protussa Cough syrup is used to relieve cough due to throat irritation, sneezing and running nose. You must avoid taking the syrup along with medicines used to treat the psychiatric illness, as it may worsen the condition.
According to the advisory issued by the Union Health Ministry, cough and cold medications should not be prescribed or dispensed to children under two years of age. These medications are generally not recommended for children under five years old. For children above that age, any use should be based on careful clinical evaluation and close supervision.

- If you are allergic to chlorpheniramine, dextromethorphan or other components of the syrup.
- If you have or had medicines like sodium oxybate (used to prevent daytime sleepiness).
- You must not take Protussa Cough syrup with or two weeks after the treatment with medicine from class monoamine oxidase inhibitors. An example of medicine is Phenelzine, Selegiline (used to treat mental illness or Parkinson's disease).
