Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Phenytal Tablet contains phenobarbital and phenytoin as two active ingredients. Phenobarbital acts by regulating chemicals: a) increasing the accumulation and action of GABA. GABA( gamma-aminobutyric acid) is known as the relaxant of the central nervous system, and it helps make the patient calm and have a good sleep. b) decreasing the glutamate activity in the brain to reduce brain activity. Phenytoin reduces electrical activity conduction in the brain tissues by decreasing the influx of sodium ions across the cell membranes. In this way, it reduces/shuts down excessive brain activity. In addition, it has a cardiac depressive action on the pacemaker node of the heart by decreasing electrical conduction in the heart cells. Thus, both active ingredients act to prevent/ control epileptic and seizures by calming down the brain and heart systems.
