Medical Description

Peragesic tablet is a pain-relieving and fever-reducing medicine for mild to moderate headaches, toothache, muscle and joint aches, menstrual pain, sore throat pain and fever. It contains paracetamol, also called acetaminophen, which acts mainly in the brain to reduce pain signals and help lower raised body temperature. It has little effect on swelling compared with anti-inflammatory pain medicines. Peragesic tablet is taken by mouth with water and should be used only as directed, especially when other pain, cold or fever products may also contain paracetamol. It does not treat the underlying cause of a persistent dental problem or infection.

Uses

  • Headache and migraine pain: Paracetamol can ease mild to moderate head pain for a limited period, while persistent or unusual headaches need medical assessment.
  • Muscle and joint pain: It may reduce discomfort from muscle strain, joint aches or arthritis-related pain and make movement easier.
  • Toothache and post-extraction pain: It may provide temporary relief, but ongoing or severe dental pain needs assessment by a dentist.
  • Menstrual pain: It may ease period-related cramps and discomfort so routine activities are more manageable.
  • Fever: It lowers raised body temperature and related aches while the illness causing the fever is assessed.
  • Sore throat pain: It can soothe throat discomfort linked with an infection but does not replace care for severe or persistent symptoms.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use it with another product containing paracetamol or acetaminophen. Ask your doctor before use if you have liver disease, regular heavy alcohol use, severe kidney disease, poor nutrition or dehydration.

  • Skin rash: A sensitivity reaction may cause red, itchy or peeling skin. Get emergency medical help for breathing difficulty or swelling of the face, lips or throat.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Use Peragesic tablet only when advised and do not combine it with other paracetamol-containing products.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Paracetamol is generally compatible with breastfeeding when used as advised. Tell your doctor if the baby is unwell or if repeated treatment is needed.

Driving

Driving

Peragesic tablet is not expected to affect driving. Do not drive if you feel unwell or develop a reaction.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid heavy alcohol use because it increases the risk of serious paracetamol toxicity.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine as a whole with sufficient water. Use Peragesic tablet exactly as advised by your doctor or pharmacist. Check other pain, cold or fever products for paracetamol before using them together. Do not use more than advised.

Storage and disposal

Store Peragesic tablet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of children's reach. Keep it in the original pack and dispose of expired tablets according to local guidance.

Quick Tips

  • Check every pain, cold or fever product for paracetamol before using it with Peragesic tablet.
  • Use only as advised and never exceed the advised amount.
  • Avoid heavy alcohol use during treatment.
  • Seek medical advice if pain worsens, fever persists or symptoms keep returning.
  • Rest and drink fluids during fever unless your clinician has advised fluid restriction.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much paracetamol can cause serious liver injury before symptoms appear. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital, even if you feel well.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The active ingredient reduces the production of chemical messengers involved in pain and temperature control, mainly in the brain. This lowers pain signals and helps bring down fever. It has little effect on swelling compared with anti-inflammatory pain medicines.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Peragesic tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention warfarin or other blood thinners, medicines for seizures, tuberculosis treatment and any pain, cold or fever product that may contain paracetamol. Regular paracetamol use may increase warfarin's effect and bleeding risk, while some seizure or tuberculosis medicines may increase toxicity risk.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is known. Food does not usually prevent this medicine from working.
