Uses of Pantosec 40 MG
Pantosec 40mg Inj uses include in the treatment of: symptoms like heartburn, acid regurgitation associated to gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and stomach ulcers; ulcers in the first part of intestines; a peculiar infection of the stomach called Helicobacter pylori infection (in this condition, (Pantosec 40mg Inj is used along with antibiotics); Zollinger–Ellison syndrome (a disease in which tumours cause the stomach to produce too much acid, resulting in peptic ulcers. Symptoms include abdominal pain and diarrhoea). Pantosec 40mg Inj is also used along with some antibiotics to decrease or neutralize the acid secretion....
Contraindications of Pantosec 40 MG
- If you have any allergic reaction to Pantosec 40mg Inj or other proton pump inhibitors
- If you are prescribed rilpivirine or atazanavir or other anti-HIV medications
- If you are on methotrexate
- If you have/are suspected to have stomach cancer. There are studies that link Pantosec 40mg Inj to stomach cancer. Hence, it is important to share if you have any personal or family history of stomach cancer....
Side effects of Pantosec 40 MG
- Pantosec 40mg Inj side effects include headache, constipation or diarrhoea along with flatulence and dry mouth
- Redness, pain or swelling at the injection site may also occur. If any of these effects continue to exist or worsen, your doctor or pharmacist needs to be promptly informed.
- Stomachache, fatigue and sore throat
- Serious skin conditions like blistering of skin, erosion of nose, mouth, lips, genitals (Steven Johnson syndrome) and sensitivity to light
- Fractures of the hip, wrist or spine
- Skin turning yellow (severe damage to liver cells, jaundice)

- If you have severe liver issues or increased levels of liver enzymes, the treatment should be stopped.
- If you have low levels of vitamin B12 (like cobalamin), the treatment should be stopped; because Pantosec 40mg Inj is known to cause a reduced absorption of vitamin B12 in the long term.
- If on exposure to sun, you get rash on your skin, stop your treatment with Pantosec 40mg Inj and inform your doctor as soon as you can.
- It may cause Clostridium difficle associated diarrhoea and malabsorption, if taken for a long term. Therefore, the treatment should be taken only on doctor’s advice.

A pump known as the proton pump in the stomach is responsible for the secretion of stomach acids. Pantosec 40mg Inj binds to this proton pump in stomach cells in order to block the acid secretion. Therefore, it is used in conditions, where there is an excessive acidity....
Directions for Use of Pantosec 40 MG
- Pantosec 40mg Inj dosage should be administered by a health care professional and under appropriate medical supervision. Kindly do not self administer.
- Your nurse or doctor will administer the daily dose to you as an injection or infusion into a vein over a period of 2–15 minutes.
- Recommended dose for adults – For gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers and reflux oesophagitis: One vial (40 mg Pantosec 40mg Inj) once a day.
- Recommended dose for adults – For the long-term treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other conditions in which too much stomach acid is produced: Two vials (80 mg Pantosec 40mg Inj) a day.
- Your doctor may adjust the dose, depending on the amount of stomach acid you produce.
- Recommended dose for children (under 18 years) – This injection/infusion is not recommended for use in children.
- Intravenous administration of Pantosec 40mg Inj is recommended only if oral administration is not appropriate. As the data are available on the intravenous use for up to 7 days. Therefore, as soon as the oral therapy is possible, treatment with 40 mg injection/infusion of Pantosec 40mg Injshould be discontinued and oral consumption of 40 mg Pantosec 40mg Inj should be administered instead....

- Medicines, such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, that are used to treat fungal infections
- Medicines, such as erlotinib, methotrexate, that are used for certain types of cancer
- Medicines prescribed to patients with AIDS such as nelfinavir/tenofovir/atazanavir, rilpivirine, etc.
- Warfarin and phenprocoumon, which affect the thickening or thinning of the blood
