Medical Description

Otosoothe ear drop is used to relieve ear pain and inflammation, mainly in conditions affecting the outer ear. It contains a combination of phenazone, which eases pain and swelling, and lidocaine (also spelt lignocaine), a numbing medicine that quickly soothes ear pain.

Contraindications

Do not use Otosoothe ear drop if you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, including lidocaine (also spelt lignocaine) or phenazone. Do not use it if your eardrum may be torn or perforated, or if there is fluid or discharge from the ear, unless your doctor has advised it.

These ear drops do not usually affect driving. If you feel dizzy after using them, wait until this passes before driving or using machines.

Directions for Use

For use in the ear only. Wash your hands, then warm the bottle by holding it in your hands for a couple of minutes so the liquid is not cold. Tilt your head with the sore ear facing up, gently pull the ear to straighten the canal and put in the drops without letting the dropper touch your ear. Stay in this position for a few minutes so the drops settle, then wipe away any excess.

Storage and disposal

Store Otosoothe ear drop at room temperature, between about 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, away from light and moisture, and do not freeze it. Keep the bottle closed and out of the reach of children. Discard it four weeks after opening and do not use it after the expiry date.

Used correctly in the ear, an overdose is unlikely. If the drops are swallowed by mistake, seek help straight away. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you forget a dose, put in the drops as soon as you remember. If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.
