Medical Description

Namsafe suspension is a combination medicine used to relieve pain and reduce fever, including headaches, toothache, sore throat, menstrual pain, arthritis and muscle aches. It contains mefenamic acid, an anti-inflammatory pain reliever, and paracetamol, a pain and fever reliever. Mefenamic acid reduces substances involved in pain, swelling and fever, while paracetamol acts mainly in the brain to lower pain and temperature signals. Namsafe suspension is taken by mouth after shaking well and measuring it with the supplied device, with or without food as advised. Do not combine it with another paracetamol or anti-inflammatory pain medicine unless a healthcare professional approves.

Uses

  • Pain relief: Helps reduce discomfort from headaches, toothache, sore throat, menstrual cramps, arthritis, or muscle aches so routine activities are easier.
  • Fever: Paracetamol helps bring down a high temperature, while mefenamic acid may reduce inflammation linked with fever.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use Namsafe suspension. Do not use it if you have had an allergic reaction to aspirin or other anti-inflammatory pain medicines, active stomach ulcer or bleeding, or severe liver disease. Tell your doctor about severe kidney disease, heart disease, asthma triggered by pain medicines or bleeding problems before use.

Side effects

  • Nausea: Mefenamic acid can irritate the stomach, causing queasiness after use. Take with food if advised, and seek care if vomiting stops you keeping fluids down.
  • Diarrhoea: The anti-inflammatory ingredient may loosen stools and cause abdominal discomfort. Contact a clinician if diarrhoea is severe, persistent or bloody.
  • Skin rash: A red or itchy rash can signal sensitivity to either ingredient. Stop using Namsafe suspension and get emergency medical help for facial, lip or throat swelling or breathing difficulty.
  • Stomach bleeding: Mefenamic acid can irritate the stomach lining, causing black stools or blood in vomit. Stop the medicine and seek urgent care immediately.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Use Namsafe suspension during breastfeeding only after professional advice.

Driving

Driving

Namsafe suspension may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel affected.

Alcohol

Directions for Use

Shake well before use. Use the measuring device supplied with the pack. Do not drink directly from the bottle. Take Namsafe suspension by mouth with or without food as advised. Food may reduce stomach upset. Do not combine it with another product containing paracetamol or an anti-inflammatory pain medicine unless a healthcare professional approves.

Storage and disposal

Store Namsafe suspension in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date or if the suspension changes appearance. Ask a pharmacist how to dispose of leftover suspension.

Quick Tips

  • Shake the suspension well and measure each amount with the supplied device.
  • Check other pain or cold products for paracetamol before using them together.
  • Use Namsafe suspension only for the period advised by your healthcare professional.
  • Stop and seek urgent help for black stools, vomiting blood, facial swelling or breathing difficulty.
  • Drink enough fluids if fever or diarrhoea is present, unless your doctor has restricted fluids.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much paracetamol can cause serious harm even before symptoms appear, while too much mefenamic acid may cause stomach pain, vomiting or bleeding. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Mefenamic acid blocks formation of substances that contribute to pain, swelling and fever. Paracetamol acts mainly in the brain to reduce pain and lower body temperature. Together, they provide relief from pain and fever.

Interactions with other medicines

In particular, mention blood thinners, steroid medicines, other anti-inflammatory pain medicines, medicines for high blood pressure, water tablets, lithium, methotrexate and medicines that affect the liver. These combinations can increase bleeding or kidney risk, change blood-pressure treatment, or increase harmful effects on the liver.
