Medical Description

Mox Plus capsule is an antibiotic combination used for selected bacterial infections and infectious diarrhoea. It contains amoxycillin, which stops susceptible bacteria from building a protective wall, and lactobacillus, a beneficial microorganism that may help restore useful intestinal bacteria during treatment. This combination can address the infection while supporting the gut, but it does not treat most viral diarrhoea or common colds. Mox Plus capsule is swallowed whole by mouth with or after food as directed by a doctor.

Uses

  • Bacterial infections: Amoxycillin treats susceptible bacterial infections in different parts of the body when a clinician selects it for the confirmed or suspected infection.
  • Infectious diarrhoea: Some digestive infections cause loose watery stools; Mox Plus capsule may be used when a susceptible bacterial cause is identified, while lactobacillus supports gut bacteria.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, amoxycillin, penicillin-type antibiotics or related antibiotics, do not use Mox Plus capsule without medical advice. Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, a history of severe allergy, asthma or bowel inflammation. Do not use it for unexplained diarrhoea without medical assessment.

Side effects

  • Nausea: Amoxycillin can upset the stomach, particularly after a dose. Taking Mox Plus capsule with food may help when your doctor has advised this.
  • Vomiting: Stomach upset may lead to vomiting. Contact your doctor if you cannot keep fluids or Mox Plus capsule down.
  • Diarrhoea: Antibiotic treatment can disturb normal bowel bacteria and cause loose stools. Seek help for severe, persistent or bloody diarrhoea.
  • Stomach pain: Changes in the digestive tract may cause cramps or discomfort. Arrange medical advice if pain is severe or worsening.
  • Allergic reaction: Amoxycillin may cause rash, itching, wheezing, breathing difficulty or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat. Get emergency medical help immediately.

No specific alcohol interaction is established, but ask your doctor if you are unsure or if you feel unwell during treatment.

Storage and disposal

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or stomach discomfort. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Amoxycillin prevents susceptible bacteria from forming the protective wall needed for survival, so the bacteria die. Lactobacillus is a beneficial microorganism that may help restore useful intestinal bacteria during or after antibiotic treatment. The combination does not treat most viral diarrhoea or common colds.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Mox Plus capsule works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention probenecid, methotrexate, blood-thinning medicines, allopurinol or other gout treatment, and oral typhoid vaccine. Probenecid may increase amoxycillin exposure, methotrexate toxicity may increase, allopurinol may increase rash risk, amoxycillin may alter the effect of blood-thinning treatment, and antibiotics may reduce the vaccine's effect.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is established. Taking Mox Plus capsule with or after food may reduce stomach upset when advised.
