Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

The active components of Misogesic SR tablets are Diclofenac and Misoprostol. Diclofenac is a potent NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). It works by blocking enzymes that affect the production of substances that mediate inflammation and pain sensation. It is particularly effective in blocking the activity of these enzymes in joints, thereby its efficacy in managing pain in conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Diclofenac decreases inflammation, swelling, and pain in affected joints. However, it can affect the stomach's protective lining, resulting in irritation and even ulcer formation. Misoprostol is added to diclofenac in Misogesic SR tablets to prevent ulcer formation. Misoprostol is a prostaglandin analogue. Prostaglandins are chemical substances that enhance the protective lining of the stomach and small intestine. Hence, misoprostol helps in decreasing the irritant side effects of the painkiller.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Diuretics are medicines that promote urination and excretion of salts from the body. This medication can decrease the effects of diuretic medication.
  • The concomitant use with Digoxin is not recommended as it can prolong the effects of Digoxin, which may lead to toxicity.
