Mirnite Mel tablet is a prescription antidepressant medication that is used to manage the symptoms of all types of depression. Symptoms of major depressive disorder in adults include restlessness, tension, anxiety, irritability, loss of interest. The active ingredient in Mirnite Mel tablets is Mirtazapine.
The mode of action of Mirnite Mel tablets is by stabilizing the levels of specific chemical messengers in the brain that helps manage mood changes and improve behavior. When used in reasonable amounts, this medicine does not cause addiction. However, there may be physical dependency (symptoms occur when the medicine is not taken) in people using Mirnite Mel tablets for a long time. Mirtazapine medication is not approved for use in children.
There are a few side effects of Mirnite Mel tablets, such as sleeplessness, constipation, low sexual desire, etc. Typically these side effects do not require medical attention. If they persist, it is advised to consult a doctor.

If you have low sodium levels (hyponatremia)
If you have acute mania and are diagnosed with bipolar disorder
If you have severe renal or liver impairment
If you have a severe heart illness such as a recent heart attack, heart rhythm problem such as long QT syndrome
If you have agranulocytosis (low white blood cells); this medicine can increase the chance of infection
If you are diagnosed with angle-closure glaucoma (an eye condition associated with an increase in fluid pressure in the eye); this medicine worsens the condition
If you have uncontrolled hypertension
If you have a history of seizure disorder

- Using high doses of opioid painkillers, such as tramadol, with Mirnite Mel tablets can cause extreme drowsiness and other side effects
- Combining Mirnite Mel tablets with blood thinners like aspirin, warfarin, etc., can increase the risk of abnormal bleeding. Monitor INR (test for bleeding) while using them
- Inform your doctor if you are using certain antibiotics, HIV medicines, etc., before starting your Mirnite Mel regime
- Cimetidine can increase the levels of Mirnite Mel tablets and cause side effects
