Metrogyl 400 MG Description
Metrogyl 400mg tablet is used to treat diarrhoea, dysentery, and infections caused by parasites, bacteria, and microorganisms. It contains metronidazole, which inhibits the growth of harmful organisms and prevents the spread of infection.
You should take the Metrogyl 400 tablet as advised by your doctor for the prescribed duration. It is recommended that this tablet be taken with meals to avoid stomach upset. You should always complete the course of treatment with this medicine. Incomplete treatment may result in treatment failure and increase the risk of re-infection. Do not miss any dose or stop taking Metrogyl 400 tablets alone.
This medicine is not recommended for pregnant women and lactating mothers. Metrogyl 400 should be used with caution in elderly patients. Before initiating treatment with the tablet Metrogyl 400, inform your doctor about all your existing medicines and medical conditions.

Uses of Metrogyl 400 MG
- Metrogyl 400 mg tablet is used to treat diarrhoea or dysentery due to parasitic infections such as amoebiasis.
- It is used to prevent sexually transmitted infections such as urogenital trichomoniasis or giardiasis.
- It is also used to treat infections of the gums, teeth and skin due to various infective microorganisms.
Contraindications of Metrogyl 400 MG
- If you are allergic to metronidazole or any of the ingredients of Metrogyl 400 mg tablet.
- If you are pregnant (first trimester) or if you have a bacterial infection in the vagina.
- If you are breastfeeding, discontinue breast-feeding until 12-24 hours after treatment.

- You experience another infection after taking Metrogyl 400 mg tablets.
- You have peripheral neuropathy (abnormal, painful sensations such as pins and needles).
- You have liver or kidney disease or you are on dialysis.
- You have Cockayne syndrome (growth retardation, impaired development of the brain and sensitivity to sunlight).
- You are an alcoholic as you are not supposed to consume alcohol during the treatment and at least after 48 hours of discontinuation of the treatment.

Interactions with other medicines
- Metrogyl 400 tablet may interact with other medicines if taken at the same time, discuss with your doctor all the medicines, supplements or herbal preparations you are taking.
- Metrogyl 400 when taken along with lithium which is used to treat psychiatric disorders can cause kidney damage.
- Concomitant use of the Metrogyl 400 tablets with anticoagulants like warfarin may potentiate the anticoagulant effects.
- Concomitant use of disulfiram which is used to treat alcohol addiction can cause mental disorders like hallucinations, etc.
- Concomitant use of this medicine can reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives. Thus, a physical barrier should be used for effective contraception.
- Be cautious if you are taking immunosuppressants like the Metrogyl 400 as it can increase the levels of ciclosporin in the body.
- Other medicines which may affect the activity of Metrogyl 400 tablets are fluorouracil, antacids like cimetidine, fluorouracil to treat cancer, phenytoin or primidone to treat fits or epilepsy.
- Also, you should inform your doctor if you have a planned surgery or vaccination scheduled.
