Medical Description
Metrogyl 400mg tablet is used to treat diarrhoea, dysentery, and infections caused by parasites, bacteria, and microorganisms. It contains metronidazole, which inhibits the growth of harmful organisms and prevents the spread of infection.
You should take the Metrogyl 400 tablet as your doctor has advised. It is recommended that this tablet be taken with meals to avoid stomach upset. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. It is best to take it with or after a meal to help reduce the possibility of stomach upset. To get the most benefit from this medicine, it's important that you take it at the same time each day. Do not take more than the prescribed dose, and always complete the full course of treatment, even if you start feeling better. Incomplete treatment may result in treatment failure and increase the risk of re-infection. Do not miss any dose or stop taking Metrogyl 400 tablets on your own.
This medicine is not recommended for pregnant women and lactating mothers. Metrogyl 400 should be used with caution in elderly patients. Before initiating treatment with Metrogyl 400 tablets, inform your doctor about all your existing medications and medical conditions.
You should also avoid drinking alcohol while on this medication and for at least 48 hours after finishing the course, as it can cause an unpleasant reaction. Be aware that this medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness; therefore, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience these side effects.
Like all medications, Metrogyl 400 mg can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, a metallic taste in your mouth, and stomach cramps. These usually improve as your body adjusts to the medication. If you experience severe or persistent side effects or notice any signs of a new infection, such as fever or worsening symptoms, contact your doctor immediately. If you accidentally take too much of this medicine, seek immediate medical attention by contacting your doctor or visiting the nearest hospital.
Metrogyl 200 tablets, Metron 400 and Metropar 400 also contain metronidazole as their active ingredient.
