Mode of Action of Metolar Xt 25 MG
How Does It Work?
Metoprolol acts by reducing heart rate and heart's output by blocking the system that causes contraction of heart muscles and increases heart rate.
Directions for Use of Metolar Xt 25 MG
- Swallow the tablet as whole with water, do not chew it
- Always follow the dosage and frequency prescribed by the doctor
- If required, the line on the tablet can be used to break the tablet into two parts before swallowing
- If you start to feel discomfort after taking the tablet, reach out to the doctor
Interactions of Metolar Xt 25 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- Taking reserpine, monoamine oxidase inhibitor medicines with Metolar xt tablets can enhance the blood pressure lowering effect
- The effect of adrenaline may be reduced in patients receiving beta blockers
- Rifampicin can decrease blood concentrations of metoprolol
- The concentration of metoprolol may increase if given concomitantly with quinidine, fluoxetine, paroxetine, etc
- Clonidine should not be given with metoprolol
- the action of metoprolol may prevent appearance of low blood glucose, therefore, dose of medicines used for insulin-dependant diabetes should be adjusted
- Anaesthesia medications given with metoprolol can increase the risk of low heart beats
- Giving this tablet concomitantly with verapamil or diltiazem can cause extremely low blood pressure or heart failure
- Second or more degree heart attack
- Cardiogenic shock
- Pain medicines of NSAIDs category can reduce the effects of metoprolol
- Cimetidine, hydralazine may increase the blood concentrations of beta blockers

Store at regular room temperature and do not use after the expiration date. Keep the tablets away from children.
Dosage of Metolar Xt 25 MG
Overdose
In case of an overdose, go to the nearest hospital or contact your doctor immediately and carry the tablet strip with you. You may experience very low blood pressure, shortness of breath, unconsciousness, etc....
Missed a Dose
If you miss a dose, take the tablet as soon as you remember. But if it is time for another dose, do not take it.
