Lucal 15Mg Injection

• Lucal Injection should not be used:
• If you have a known severe hypersensitivity or systemic allergic reaction to calcium leucovorin, folinic acid, or any of its ingredients.
• For the treatment of pernicious anemia or other megaloblastic anemias caused by Vitamin B12 deficiency (as it may temporarily improve anemia while allowing neurological damage to progress).

• Common Side Effects
• Nausea and vomiting
• Diarrhea or loose stools
• Stomach discomfort
• Tiredness and fatigue
• Mild fever or warmth
• Skin redness, rash, or mild itching
• Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
• Agitation or mild restlessness
• Serious Side Effects (Seek Immediate Medical Care)
• Severe Allergic Reaction (Anaphylaxis): Severe skin rash, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, low blood pressure, severe dizziness, or sudden trouble breathing.
• Severe Gastrointestinal Toxicity (When combined with 5-Fluorouracil): Severe, uncontrolled diarrhea, severe mouth sores (mucositis), or dehydration. Calcium leucovorin can increase the toxicity of 5-fluorouracil.
• Seizures: Calcium leucovorin may reduce blood concentrations of certain anticonvulsants, including phenytoin, phenobarbital, and primidone, potentially increasing seizure frequency.

Other General Warnings

• Have a history of allergic reactions to leucovorin or folinic acid.
• Have pre-existing seizure disorders or are taking anti-seizure medications like phenytoin.
• Experience severe diarrhea or painful mouth inflammation after receiving chemotherapy with leucovorin.
• Have impaired kidney function, as delayed methotrexate clearance requires adjusted leucovorin dosages and prolonged monitoring.
• Are receiving methotrexate or 5-fluorouracil, as calcium leucovorin should be used under appropriate specialist supervision.

• Lucal Injection must be administered exclusively by qualified healthcare personnel in a clinical or hospital setting.
• It is given by intravenous infusion, intravenous injection, or intramuscular injection according to the prescribed treatment protocol. It must not be administered intrathecally.
• Do not self-administer this medication.

• Follow the prescribed schedule carefully, as the timing of calcium leucovorin relative to methotrexate is important for effective rescue therapy.
• Report severe diarrhoea, mouth sores, or difficulty maintaining fluid intake promptly.
• Attend scheduled blood tests, particularly when Lucal Injection is being used for methotrexate rescue.

Interactions with other medicines

• Phenytoin, phenobarbital, and primidone: May reduce the effectiveness of these medicines and increase the risk of seizures.
• 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU): Can increase both its anticancer effect and toxicity, so close monitoring is needed.
• Trimethoprim, co-trimoxazole, and pyrimethamine: May have their effects reduced or neutralised.
• Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, supplements, and herbal products you take.
