Medical Description

Levolin 2mg Tablet relieves wheezing, chest tightness, breathlessness, and cough caused by narrowing of the airways in bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It contains levosalbutamol, the active form of salbutamol, which relaxes the muscles around the small airways, allowing them to widen and making breathing easier.

Take it with or without food, exactly as prescribed and at the same time each day, and do not stop without medical advice. Tablets take too long to act during a sudden attack, so always keep your rescue inhaler within reach.

Fine trembling of the hands, headache, a faster heartbeat, and muscle cramps occur because levosalbutamol also acts on receptors in the heart and skeletal muscle. These effects are usually mild and settle within a few days. Seek prompt medical advice if you develop chest pain, an irregular heartbeat, or severe dizziness.

Before starting, tell your doctor if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, diabetes or low blood potassium, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Needing it more often than before signals worsening disease. Avoid driving if you feel shaky, and stop smoking completely.

  • Levolin 2mg Tablet is used to relieve wheezing, breathlessness and chest tightness caused by narrowing of the airways in bronchial asthma.

Seizures have been reported at very high doses. Contact your doctor at once or go to the nearest emergency department, taking the medicine pack with you.

Missed a Dose

If you miss a dose of Levolin 2mg Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is nearly due, skip the missed one and resume your usual schedule. Never take a double dose to make up for it.

How does this medicine work?

  • Levolin 2mg Tablet contains levosalbutamol, which helps open up the airways and makes breathing easier. It works by relaxing the muscles around the airways in the lungs, allowing them to widen so that air can flow in and out more easily.
  • This helps relieve symptoms such as wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing caused by narrowed airways. Since it contains only the active form of salbutamol, it provides effective relief at a lower dose.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Some medicines change how Levolin 2mg Tablet works, and this medicine can alter the effect of others taken alongside it.
  • Give your doctor a complete list of your prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, herbal preparations and supplements so that interactions can be identified before treatment starts.
  • Severe: Non-selective beta-blockers such as propranolol block the very receptors this medicine acts on. They can cancel its benefit and provoke severe bronchospasm in people with asthma, so the combination is normally avoided; where a beta-blocker is unavoidable, a cardioselective agent is used with close monitoring.
  • Severe: Other sympathomimetic medicines, including additional beta-agonists and certain decongestants, can combine to produce a markedly fast or irregular heartbeat and a rise in blood pressure.
  • Moderate: Diuretics such as furosemide and thiazides together with levosalbutamol can drive blood potassium down sharply, risking muscle weakness, cramps and heart rhythm disturbance.
  • Moderate: Theophylline and aminophylline add to the tremor, restlessness, palpitations and potassium loss caused by this medicine.
  • Moderate: Systemic corticosteroids further reduce blood potassium when taken with a beta-2 agonist.
  • Moderate: Digoxin becomes more likely to reach toxic effect if potassium falls, so periodic monitoring is advised.
  • Moderate: Monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants can exaggerate the effects on heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Moderate: Insulin and oral antidiabetic medicines may need review, because levosalbutamol can raise blood glucose.

Interactions with food items

  • Levolin 2mg Tablet may be taken with or without food; no specific foods need be avoided. Taking it after a meal can help if you find it causes mild stomach upset.
  • Caffeine is the practical point to watch. Coffee, tea, cola, chocolate and energy drinks stimulate the body in a similar direction to this medicine and can clearly worsen tremor, restlessness, difficulty sleeping and palpitations. Reducing them usually improves tolerance.
  • If you have diabetes, keep meals regular and check blood glucose more often after starting treatment, as this medicine can push sugar levels up.
  • Where potassium tends to run low, especially if you also take diuretics or steroids, your doctor may recommend potassium-rich foods such as bananas, coconut water, oranges and leafy greens.

Other general Interactions

Those with lung infections, diabetes, heart problems and high blood pressure should use Levolin 2mg Strip Of 10 Tablets with caution. Let your doctor know if you have any of these conditions. Also, provide your doctor with a detailed medical history.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Levolin 2mg Tablet is used to relieve breathlessness, wheezing, chest tightness and cough that occur when the airways narrow. It is prescribed in bronchial asthma and in chronic obstructive lung diseases such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema, where it opens up the air passages and makes breathing easier.
Salbutamol is a mixture of two mirror-image forms of the same molecule, only one of which produces the bronchodilating effect. Levolin 2mg Tablet contains just that active form, levosalbutamol. In practice this means a similar opening of the airways can be achieved with a smaller amount of drug, and some people tolerate it with less tremor and fewer palpitations.
Taken as a tablet, the medicine generally begins to ease breathing within about half an hour, with the benefit lasting roughly six hours. Inhaled forms act much faster, which is why an inhaler remains the treatment of choice for sudden symptoms.
No. Levolin 2mg Tablet in tablet form works too slowly to be a rescue treatment. During a sudden attack you must use the reliever inhaler your doctor has prescribed and seek emergency help if your breathing does not improve quickly.
A fine tremor, most noticeable in the hands, is the commonest effect of this class of medicine and comes from stimulation of receptors in skeletal muscle. It is usually mild, tends to lessen within a few days as your body adapts, and does not indicate harm. Report it if it becomes troublesome.
Some people feel their heart beating faster or more forcefully, particularly when treatment begins. This is usually short-lived. Contact your doctor if you develop a persistently rapid or irregular heartbeat, chest discomfort or fainting.
You do not have to avoid them completely, but caffeine adds to the trembling, restlessness, sleeplessness and palpitations this medicine can cause. Many people find that cutting back on coffee, tea, cola, chocolate and energy drinks makes a noticeable difference.
Neither. Levolin 2mg Tablet is a bronchodilator, specifically a short-acting beta-2 agonist. It relaxes the muscle around your airways. It does not reduce inflammation the way a steroid does and has no effect on infection the way an antibiotic does.
Levosalbutamol is used in children, but only in the dose and formulation chosen by a paediatrician for the child's age and weight. Never give an adult-strength tablet to a child or adjust the dose yourself.
Yes. Like other beta-2 agonists it can lower blood potassium and raise blood glucose, particularly at higher doses or in combination with diuretics, steroids or theophylline. Tell your doctor if you develop muscle weakness or cramps, and monitor your sugar more closely if you have diabetes.
Mention any heart disease, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, diabetes, seizure disorder or low blood potassium, and tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also list all other medicines you take, especially those for blood pressure or the heart.
Do not stop without medical advice. Your doctor will decide how long you need it based on your symptoms and lung function tests. If you have also been prescribed a preventer inhaler, that must be continued regularly even when you feel completely well.
