Medical Description

L-Hist Total Plus tablet is a combination medicine that contains paracetamol, phenylephrine and levocetirizine as active ingredients. L-Hist Total Plus tablet is used to treat fever, stuffed or blocked nose associated with allergy or cold. Paracetamol helps in reducing fever and pain, phenylephrine reduces nasal blockage and levocetirizine is an anti-allergic & reduces the production of chemicals responsible for allergic reaction. This medicine should not be used for children under 12 years of age, pregnant and lactating women. If you experience any discomfort while using this tablet. You should immediately contact your doctor.

Uses

For the treatment of fever and blocked nose (Nasal congestion) associated with allergy and cold.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to paracetamol, phenylephrine, levocetirizine or any constituent of L Hist Total Plus tablet.
  • If you are using a medicine similar to phenylephrine like oxymetazoline for cold.
  • If you have a tumour in the adrenal gland, also known as phaeochromocytoma.
  • If you have an eye disorder called glaucoma or thyroid-related disorder.
  • If you are using any psychiatric medicines or medicines for brain-related disorders.
  • If you have high blood pressure, heart-related disorder, diabetes, liver or kidney disorder.

L-Hist Total Plus is not recommended during pregnancy as components of this medicine may reduce the flow of nutrients from the mother to the unborn baby (placental perfusion). Pregnant women should always consult a doctor before using any medication.

Breast Feeding

Components of L-Hist Total Plus pass into breastmilk and can affect the breastfed infant. Thus, the use of this medicine is not recommended in breastfeeding mothers unless prescribed by the doctor.

Other General Warnings

  • You have diabetes or raynaud's phenomenon, a disorder where the colour of the skin changes when exposed to hot and cold temperatures.
  • You have an enlarged prostate gland and experience difficulty during urination.
  • You have a tendency to retain urine.
  • You have a tendency to develop fits, seizures or tremors.
  • You have any liver-related disorder or severe liver dysfunction.
  • You are using any other medicine containing paracetamol.

Directions for Use

  • Take L-Hist Total Plus tablet as per your doctor's instructions.
  • This medicine should be taken as a whole with water.

Storage and disposal

  • Store below 25°C and in the original package.
  • Keep it away from children and pets.

Overdose

Overdose of L-Hist Total Plus tablet can cause vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, increased blood pressure and decrease in heartbeat. In case you have taken an excessive dose of this medicine, reach out to the nearest hospital or contact your doctor immediately.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed any dose of L-Hist Total Plus tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of this medicine to compensate for the missed one.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

  • L-Hist Total Plus tablet works by the combined action of its three components, namely Paracetamol, Phenylephrine and Levocetirizine.
  • Paracetamol helps in reducing fever. It reduces fever by inhibiting chemical substances that cause an increase in temperature and also acts as a pain killer.
  • Phenylephrine acts by constricting the blood vessels around the nose and thus reduces swelling. This helps in clearing the blocked nose.
  • Levocetirizine acts by inhibiting a substance called histamine, which results in symptoms like swelling, running nose, rashes associated with allergy.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Concomitant use of L-Hist Total Plus tablet with psychiatric medicines like Isocarboxazid and Selegiline can increase blood pressure and other heart-related side effects such as palpitations.
  • Medicines such as Debrisoquine, Guanethidine, Reserpine and Methyldopa when used together with L-Hist Total Plus tablet, can increase the risk of heart-related side effects.
  • L-Hist Total Plus tablet decreases the effect of other medicines like pseudoephedrine to treat cold.
  • L-Hist Total Plus tablet reduces blood pressure-lowering effect of anti-hypertensives such as Acebutolol and Atenolol.
  • Anti-coagulant effect of medicines like Warfarin is increased by L-Hist Total Plus tablet and there can be a risk of bleeding.
  • The effect of L-Hist Total Plus tablet is increased when used along with medicines like Metoclopramide or Domperidone that are used to control vomiting.
  • The effect of L-Hist Total Plus tablet is decreased when used along with medicines like Cholestyramine that is used to control high cholesterol.
  • The effects of medicine like Ergotamine used to treat migraine can be increased when used together with this medicine.
  • Use of L-Hist Total Plus tablet with Digoxin, a medicine used for heart disorders can increase the risk of heart disorders.
