Kombiglyze Xr 5/1000mg Strip Of 7 Tablets
Description
Kombiglyze Xr tablet is a combination medicine used to help manage type 2 diabetes in adults. It contains metformin and saxagliptin, which work together to lower and stabilise blood sugar levels. Metformin reduces the sugar produced by your liver. It improves how your body uses insulin, while saxagliptin helps your body release more insulin after meals and reduces sugar output from the liver by blocking a specific enzyme. This combination helps maintain better blood sugar control, especially after eating.
This medicine should be taken exactly as prescribed, usually with or after meals, to reduce side effects such as nausea, bloating, or diarrhoea. Some common side effects include vomiting, flatulence, loss of appetite, and abdominal discomfort. Always take it at the same time each day and never more than the recommended dose. If you miss a dose, take it with food as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for the next dose.
Certain medications, including strong antibiotics, antifungals, diuretics, steroids, and some seizure or thyroid medications, can interact with this medicine. These interactions may affect how well Kombiglyze Xr tablet works or increase the risk of side effects. It is essential to inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking and not to discontinue any of them without consulting a medical professional.
Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine, as it increases the risk of serious side effects like lactic acidosis, which can be life-threatening. Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, consume alcohol regularly, or are scheduled for surgery or a scan with contrast dye. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication unless explicitly advised by a doctor. Always watch for symptoms such as extreme tiredness, unusual muscle pain, or signs of vitamin B12 deficiency, and report any unusual symptoms to your healthcare provider.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Metformin helps lower blood sugar by reducing the amount of sugar produced by your liver and by improving your body's ability to use insulin effectively. It also helps slow down the absorption of sugar from the food you eat. This helps keep your blood sugar levels more stable, especially in people with type 2 diabetes....
- Saxagliptin works by helping your body increase the amount of insulin it makes after meals and lowering the amount of sugar your liver releases. It achieves this by blocking an enzyme called DPP-4, which normally breaks down hormones that help regulate blood sugar levels. By blocking this enzyme, saxagliptin helps maintain more stable blood sugar levels, especially after meals....
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Taking saxagliptin with certain strong antibiotics or antifungal medicines like ketoconazole, clarithromycin, or itraconazole can raise saxagliptin levels in your body.
- Some medicines like digoxin, morphine, or ranitidine may affect how metformin is removed from your body, which might increase side effects.
- Certain medications, such as water pills (diuretics), steroids, thyroid medicines, birth control pills, or seizure drugs, may raise your blood sugar and reduce the effect of this diabetes medicine.
- If you stop taking any of these medications while on this treatment, your blood sugar levels may drop, so your doctor may need to adjust your dose.
