Medical Description

Iberol syrup is a nutritional supplement used to support iron intake and red blood cell formation when dietary intake is low or nutritional needs are increased. It contains a combination of ferrous fumarate, pyridoxine, cyanocobalamin, nicotinamide, vitamin C, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and folic acid. Ferrous fumarate provides iron for haemoglobin, while folic acid, cyanocobalamin and the other vitamins support normal blood-cell development and body functions. It may be recommended during pregnancy, after chronic blood loss, or during recovery when a clinician identifies a nutritional need. Iberol syrup is taken by mouth after food with water and is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet.

Uses

  • Daily iron intake: Low dietary iron can limit haemoglobin formation and leave people tired; Iberol syrup provides iron and supporting nutrients to help meet nutritional needs.
  • Pregnancy nutrition: Increased nutritional needs during pregnancy may require additional iron, folic acid and other nutrients; use Iberol syrup only when a clinician recommends it.
  • Nutrition after chronic blood loss: Ongoing blood loss can increase the need for iron and blood-forming nutrients; this supplement helps support replenishment under medical guidance.
  • Recovery and older age: Poor intake during convalescence or later life may reduce nutrient supply; Iberol syrup supports haemoglobin maintenance as part of overall nutrition.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this product, do not use it. Do not use Iberol syrup if a doctor has told you that you have excess iron storage or a type of anaemia not caused by nutritional deficiency. Ask a doctor before use if you have a blood disorder or receive repeated blood transfusions.

Side effects

  • Nausea: Iron can irritate the stomach and cause queasiness, especially when the syrup is used without food. Seek advice if vomiting prevents continued use.
  • Constipation: Iron may make stools harder or less frequent, sometimes with tummy discomfort. Increase fibre and fluids, and seek care for severe pain or persistent constipation.
  • Dark stools: Iron can turn stools darker without indicating harm. Seek urgent help if stools are black and tar-like or occur with weakness or stomach pain.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Iberol syrup may be used during pregnancy only when advised by a doctor. Your doctor can assess your iron and folic acid needs and avoid unnecessary overlap with other supplements.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Ask your doctor before using Iberol syrup while breastfeeding, particularly if you or your baby receive other vitamin or mineral products.

Driving

Driving

Iberol syrup is not expected to affect driving. If you develop dizziness or feel unwell, avoid driving until you recover.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid excessive alcohol because it can worsen poor nutrition and may interfere with management of anaemia.

Directions for Use

Shake well before use. Use the measuring device supplied with the pack. Do not drink directly from the bottle. Take Iberol syrup by mouth with water after food, or as advised by your doctor. Do not take more than advised.

Storage and disposal

Store Iberol syrup in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep it tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date. Dispose of unused syrup according to local advice.

Quick Tips

  • Use the measuring device supplied with the pack.
  • Keep Iberol syrup out of children's reach because excess iron can be dangerous.
  • Do not take it with tea, coffee or milk unless your doctor advises it.
  • A darkening of stools can occur with iron supplements and is usually expected.
  • Keep follow-up appointments if Iberol syrup was recommended for low haemoglobin.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much iron can cause severe stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unusual sleepiness, especially in children. If you think you have taken too much of this product, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Ferrous fumarate supplies iron, which the body uses to make haemoglobin and carry oxygen in the blood. Pyridoxine, cyanocobalamin and folic acid support normal blood-cell formation. Nicotinamide, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and vitamin C contribute to normal energy and cell processes, and vitamin C can also help iron absorption.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Iberol syrup works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, antacids and acid-reducing medicines can lower iron absorption, while iron can reduce absorption of thyroid medicines and some antibiotics. Separate use only as advised by a doctor or pharmacist.

Interactions with food items

Tea, coffee, milk and calcium-rich foods can reduce iron absorption when taken close to Iberol syrup. Follow your doctor's advice about timing and do not change your diet for treatment without guidance.
