Medical Description

Hemolit cream is a combination medicine used for the treatment of haemorrhoids or piles. It contains Calcium dobesilate, Lidocaine, Zinc oxide, Phenylephrine, Troxerutin and Hydrocortisone as active ingredients. It helps in relieving symptoms like itching, swelling, pain, rectal irritation or rectal bleeding associated with piles. Along with the medication, a high fibrous diet and stool softeners can be more effective. You should also avoid using it on large areas of skin or for a prolonged period and follow the recommended dosage regimen. Avoid performing activities that require continuous sitting as sitting may exacerbate pain due to piles. Maintain proper hygiene condition while applying this cream.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to Hemolit cream or any of the ingredient of this cream.
  • If you are pregnant.
  • If you have a bacterial, viral or fungal skin infection.
  • This medicine is not meant to be used for children below 12 years of age.
  • If you have any kind of medical condition like diabetes, heart problem, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, liver disease or any kind of blood disorder etc.
  • If you feel difficulty in passing urine.

Dosage

Overdose

Hemolit cream is meant for external application, cases of overdose are unlikely. However, upon accidental ingestion contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital. If you have applied extra quantities of it, then wipe out the excess of the medicine with tissue or cotton.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed applying Hemolit cream, then apply it as soon as possible. Do not over-apply this medicine to compensate for the missed dose.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

  • Hemolit cream is a combination of six different active components. The collective action of each ingredient helps in relieving symptoms of piles and anal fissures.
  • Hydrocortisone is a steroid. It works by blocking or reducing the action of some natural substances that causes pain, swelling and irritation.
  • Phenylephrine works by narrowing the blood vessels of the affected area and thus helps in relieving swelling and may reduce bleeding and pain.
  • Zinc oxide acts as a skin protectant. It acts as a barrier and protects the anal skin from irritants.
  • Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic. It acts on nerves and blocks the conduction of pain sensations for a short duration of time, Thereby helps in reducing pain sensation.
  • Calcium dobesilate acts by protecting the blood vessels of the anal and lowest part of the rectum area. It decreases the blood viscosity so that blood can easily flow through the blood vessels of the anal area and promotes normal blood flow. Thereby helps in reducing the swelling.
  • Troxerutin strengthen the blood vessels of the anal and rectum area and also helps in reducing abnormal leakage.

Interactions with other medicines

  • There is limited information available on the interaction of Hemolit cream with other medicines. Since this cream is to be used externally on the skin, it is less likely to interact with other medicines. However, you should always consult your doctor if you are taking other medicines for treating other health conditions.
  • Avoid simultaneous application of any other medicine on the affected area after applying Hemolit cream.

Interactions with food items

  • You should avoid oily and spicy food. Minimize the intake of dairy products as it may cause constipation sometimes. Increase the intake of fluid and fibrous food.

An anal fissure is a small cut in the skin of the anal area. It is usually caused by constipation, passing of large and hard stools, prolonged diarrhoea, unhygienic toilet habits in children or long term diseases with prolonged diarrhoea, blood-stained stools, pain and cramping in the stomach.

You should read the instruction label carefully before using this cream. You also must wash your hands before and after using this cream.Use an applicator if it has to be applied internally. Wash the applicator after use.Cleanse the sore area with warm water using moisten and a cotton cloth gently.Generally, it should be applied morning and night and after every time you pass stool.

A diet and lifestyle changes (like adequate sleep and plenty of exercises) and jacuzzi or hot tub bath. In a jacuzzi bath, you take warm water and Epsom salt, to about half the capacity of the tub and sit for around 15-20 minutes.Also, avoid activities that require continuous sitting.You can also have stool softeners to avoid constipation.
