Fluvoxin Xr 150 mg Tablet is used for the treatment of Obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is characterised by unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead to compulsive behaviours. Fluvoxin Xr Tablet comes under the therapeutic classification of antidepressants. Fluvoxin Xr Tablet comprises 150 mg of fluvoxamine. It is a prescription medicine for mental health disorders such as anxiety. It is essential to follow the complete course of treatment suggested by your physician. Close monitoring of patients with increased risk of suicidal behaviour should be done under this antidepressant therapy.

Dosage

Overdose

Do not take Fluvoxin Xr 150 mg Tablets in more than prescribed doses. Symptoms of overdosage can be nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of consciousness, coordination and dizziness. In case of overdosage, seek emergency medical treatment and contact your doctor immediately.

Missed a Dose

Take the missed dose just and when you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take medicine and skip the missed dose. Don’t double the dosage to compensate for the missed dose.

How Does It Work?

Fluvoxin Xr 150 mg Tablet exerts its mechanism of action by controlling the reuptake (reabsorption) of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a chemical neurotransmitter in the brain which transmits messages between nerve cells. Thus, increasing the availability of serotonin in the brain enhances one’s mood and feeling of being happy by relieving anxiety and tension.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Interaction with Monoamine oxidase inhibitors like moclobemide and selegiline can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Excess serotonin in the system.
  • Interaction with oral anticoagulants like warfarin can increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Interaction with benzodiazepines like triazolam, midazolam, alprazolam, and tricyclic antidepressants like clomipramine, imipramine, amitriptyline can increase the plasma levels of these medicines.

Interactions with food items

  • Unless your physician suggests, there is no need to avoid any particular type of food or drink.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No. It is not advisable to stop Fluvoxin Xr Tablets even if you feel well. It may take a few weeks to get the maximum benefit of this medicine. Most people need to remain on Fluvoxin Xr Tablets for at least six months after fully recovering.

Fluvoxin Xr Tablet is not addictive, but if you stop taking the medication suddenly, you may experience unpleasant physical feelings. Symptoms are fairly common and include nausea, insomnia, electric shock sensations, anxiety, dizziness and vivid dreams.

Fluvoxin Xr 150 mg Tablet is not recommended in treating children and adolescents under the age of 18 years, except for patients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. It is known to have increased suicidal thoughts and behavioural changes when given to children. Fluvoxin Xr 150 mg Tablets should be used with caution in elderly patients. Dose adjustment and review are necessary since they are more prone to hepatic and renal impairment.
