Medical Description
Escnx 5 mg Tab is a prescription medication that belongs to the class of antidepressants. Escnx is used in the treatment of anxiety, panic disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Escnx 5 mg Tab increases the amount of serotonin in the brain and helps in alleviating symptoms associated with depression and anxiety. Escnx contains escitalopram as its active ingredient. It is firmly advised to adhere to the dosage schedule of Escnx 5 mg Tabs given by the doctor. Do not discontinue Escnx 5 mg abruptly, as that can result in withdrawal symptoms.
Do not alter the dosage of Escnx 5 mg by yourself, consult your doctor if you feel the currently prescribed dosage isn’t working for you. The most common side effects that can be seen while using the Escnx 5 mg include nausea, drowsiness, confusion and alteration in sex drive. The medicine can be taken with or without food, however, it is best to take it at a fixed time.

Contraindications
- If you are hypersensitive or have an allergy to the active or inactive components of Escnx 5 mg Tab.
- If you are currently taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) like Selegiline or have taken them in the last 14 days. Patients can experience increased side effects and life-threatening situations if they take MAOIs and Escnx 5 mg together.

Talk to your doctor if
- You have suicidal thoughts after taking Escnx 5 mg Tabs. It is essential to report any changes in your feeling to your doctor, so they can alter the dose as needed.
- You want to discontinue the medicine. Suddenly discontinuing Escnx 5 mg may increase the risk of experiencing withdrawal symptoms, more so if the medicine has been used for a long time.
- You have narrow-angle glaucoma, a condition in which the iris of the eye bulges forward and narrows the drainage angle. Escnx 5 mg can worsen the condition.
- Escnx 5 mg Tab is not recommended for children below the age of 12 years.
Directions for Use
- Escnx 5 mg Tabs must be taken as and when directed by your doctor.
- Take Escnx 5 mg at the same time every day to ensure that a constant level of medication is maintained in the blood.
- Swallow Escnx 5 mg Tablet as a whole with a glass of water. Do not break, crush, or chew it, as it can reduce its efficacy.
- Escnx 5 mg Tabs can be taken with or without food.
- Do not alter the recommended dosage of Escnx 5 mg Tab. Talk to your doctor if you feel that your prescribed dosage is not working for you.
- Do not discontinue Escnx 5 mg Tablet without consulting your doctor.
Storage and disposal
It is advised to store Escnx 5 mg Tabs at room temperature away from the reach of pets and children at home. Keep Escnx 5 mg Tab in a cool and dry area that is away from sunlight. Store Escnx 5 mg Tablets within their original packaging. Dispose of unused/expired medicine as biomedical waste to avoid accidental consumption by other animals and humans.

Overdose
In case of an overdose of Escnx 5 mg, you may experience symptoms such as serotonin toxicity, QT prolongation, dizziness, fast heart rate, sleep problems , nausea, vomiting seizures, bradycardia, low blood pressure and coma. Contact your nearest hospital or call your health provider for emergency treatment if there are any severe side effects.
Missed a Dose
If you forget to take a dose of Escnx Tab, take it as soon as you recall. However, if the gap is too long or it is almost time for the next dose, skip the dose you have missed and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra doses of Escnx Tab to compensate for the missed dosage.

How Does It Work?
Escnx 5 mg Tab belongs to the class of selective serotonin inhibitors. It works by increasing the levels of a particular chemical messenger in the brain called serotonin. This messenger is also known as the ‘feel-good hormone’ and influences a person’s mood, behaviour and personality. The increase in the level of serotonin improves mood and relieves tension, anxiety and other symptoms seen with anxiety disorders and depression.

Interactions with other medicines
- To avoid side effects associated with medicine interaction, it is important to inform the doctor about all medicines or health supplements you are currently taking.
- Escnx 5 mg Tab is known to interact with the following medicines:
- Clarithromycin (macrolide antibiotic used in the treatment of bacterial infections) - changes in heart rhythm.
- Ketoconazole (antifungal medication used in the treatment of infections such as athlete’s foot, ringworm and dandruff) - increased chances of Escnx 5 mg Tab overdose due to its increased concentrations in blood.
- Sulfonylureas (medications used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes) like glimepiride - changes in blood glucose levels.
- Diuretics (water pills used to remove sodium and water from the body) - blood sodium levels are decreased (hyponatremia)
Interactions with food items
- Food does not influence the effect of Escnx 5 mg Tablet. So, a regular diet can be continued unless advised otherwise by the doctor.
- Additionally, inform the doctor about any supplements or herbal drinks you take before beginning your Escnx 5 mg.
