Women who could become pregnant should use effective contraception during treatment and for a few weeks after the last dose, as recommended by your doctor.

  • If you miss a dose of Erlot tablet, follow your doctor's instructions.
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

How does this medicine work?

  • Erlot tablet blocks EGFR, a protein that sends signals telling cancer cells to grow and multiply.
  • By blocking these signals, Erlot tablet slows cancer cell growth and multiplication and may eventually cause some cancer cells to die.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Ketoconazole, clarithromycin, and ritonavir may increase erlotinib levels and the risk of side effects.
  • Rifampicin, carbamazepine, and St. John’s wort may lower erlotinib levels and make it less effective.
  • Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) may reduce erlotinib absorption and should generally be avoided if possible. Ask your doctor about suitable alternatives.
  • If you need antacids, ask your doctor or pharmacist about the appropriate timing.
  • Smoking can reduce the amount of erlotinib in your body and may make it less effective. Tell your doctor if you smoke or stop smoking during treatment.
  • Tell your doctor about all medicines, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products you take, especially blood thinners such as warfarin.

Interactions with food items

Take Erlot tablet exactly as directed by your doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

An acne-like skin rash is a very common side effect and often indicates that the medication is working. Your doctor may recommend topical treatments, moisturizers, gentle cleansers, or oral antibiotics. Protecting your skin from the sun is also critical.
Diarrhea is common with erlotinib. Increase your fluid intake and contact your doctor at the first sign of loose stools so they can prescribe anti-diarrheal medications and adjust your dose if needed.
Medicines that reduce stomach acid can reduce erlotinib absorption. Avoid PPIs if possible. If you need an antacid, ask your doctor about the correct timing. Talk to your doctor before taking H2 blockers or other heartburn medicines.
