Uses
- As per CDSCO, Duvanta Tablet is used for:
- Management of Major depressive disorder (MDD)
- Management of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-feeling of extreme worry and fear)
- Management of Diabetic neuropathic pain (pain due to nerve damage in diabetic patients)
- Management of Fibromyalgia (a condition with widespread muscle and joint pain)
- Management of stress urinary incontinence (lack of control over urination)
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to any component of the Duvanta Tablet, i.e., Duloxetine.
- If you are taking medications like Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI)- linezolid, methylene blue, Selegiline, Rasagiline.
- If you have a history of seizure disorder or epilepsy.
- If you have severe skin conditions.
- If you have uncontrolled hypertension.
- If you have acute angle glaucoma (increased fluid pressure in the eyes).
- If you are taking anti-Parkinson’s medications.
- If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviour.
- If you have liver and kidney disease.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

- You have any allergic reactions after taking Duvanta Tablet.
- You have any self-harming thoughts or suicidal ideation.
- You have trouble breathing or talking.
- You experience any severe side effects persistently.
- Your symptoms do not resolve, or there is a worsening of your condition.
- You are an elderly patient over 65 years.
- You have mild or severe liver and kidney disease; this medicine may need a dose adjustment.
- You have withdrawal symptoms like agitation, nausea, tremor, sweating and confusion.
- You are pregnant or planning a pregnancy during the course of treatment.
- You are using any ayurvedic or herbal medicines, vitamins, and other health supplements.
Directions for Use
- Take a Duvanta Tablet as prescribed by the doctor.
- Take this medicine with or without food or as prescribed by the doctor.
- Take this medicine on a regular schedule, preferably at the same time every day.
- Consume the whole tablet orally with a glass of water. Do not crush/break the tablet or chew this medicine.
- Do not take this tablet with other medications without consulting your doctor.
- Don’t stop taking this medication abruptly, as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms.
- Don’t exceed the dosage without consulting your doctor first.

How Does It Work?
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Concomitant use of this medication with antidepressant-like Clomipramine, Desipramine, Imipramine, Amitriptyline, Amoxapine, etc.; opioids and other CNS depressants are contraindicated, as it may cause respiratory depression, coma and death.
- This medicine should not be used concomitantly or within two weeks of using Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, Selegiline, Rasagiline, etc. It is potentially life-threatening.
- Interaction with antihistamines (allergy medicines) like cetrizine, levocetirizine, chlorpheniramine; Painkillers such as morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, hydrocodone, tramadol, codeine, etc.; and sleeping pills can increase drowsiness and fatigue.
- NSAIDs, Aspirin, warfarin, and other medications that affect coagulation may interact and increase the risk of bleeding.
- Interaction with Herbal products like St john’s wort can lead to life-threatening side effects.
Interactions with food items
- Avoid consuming Tyramine-rich foods such as cheese, milk, meat, chocolate, chicken liver etc.
