Medical Description

Dox M DT tablet is an antibiotic used for selected bacterial infections in different parts of the body, including some chest, lung, nose, insect-borne and other infections when prescribed. It contains doxycycline, which stops susceptible bacteria from making proteins, and betacyclodextrine, which is part of the formulation. The tablet is taken by mouth as directed, and it does not treat viral colds or influenza. It is not recommended during pregnancy, while breastfeeding or for young children unless a specialist decides that the benefits outweigh the risks.

How does this medicine work?

The doxycycline interferes with protein production in susceptible bacteria, which stops them from multiplying and helps the body clear the infection. It does not work against viral colds or influenza. The betacyclodextrine is included in the tablet formulation and has no separate infection-treating role described for this product.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Dox M DT tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention antacids and acidity medicines containing aluminium, magnesium or calcium, bismuth subsalicylate, iron, oral zinc, blood thinners and seizure medicines. Antacids, bismuth and mineral products can lower doxycycline absorption, while some seizure medicines can lower its level and doxycycline may change the effect of some blood thinners.

Interactions with food items

Calcium-rich foods and drinks may lower doxycycline absorption in some situations. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how to use this tablet around food and mineral products, and do not arrange separation without their advice.
